Unbeaten in three races, Makaloun (Bated Breath) will certainly be the favourite of this Prix de Condé (Gr3) with the best rating at the start but the leading trainer in the race's history, André Fabre (7 wins against 4 for the second amongst active handlers, Jean-Claude Rouget, trainer of Makaloun), throws two good fillies in after they won their last race, namely Magna Mater (Zoffany) for Godolphin and Anasia (Intello) for Wertheimer & Frère.

Let’s not forget that being beaten here isn’t such a bad omen as Waldgeist, Cloth of Stars and The Summit finished third in the Prix de Condé before shining at the top level!

  • 1. MAKALOUN (c2, FRA by Bated Breath ex Makana, by Dalakhani) Poids : 56,5kg / Valeur théorique : 98lbs

Trained in Deauville by Jean-Claude Rouget, bred by his owner, he's unbeaten in three races including the last one on very soft ground in a Listed event run in Deauville over the mile. He beat the third-placed Shut the Box by more than a length, that day.

He's in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1).

  • 2. AREEN (c2, USA by Giant’s Causeway ex Grey Lina, by Empire Maker) Weight: 8-13 / Rating: -

Trained in Chantilly by Pia et Joakim Brandt, unsold at €145,000 at the Deauville sales, he finished last for his debut in July over 7 furlongs but won a month later over one mile on very soft ground, by a nose.

  • 3. SHUT THE BOX (c2, FRA by Pedro the Great ex Tiziana, by Dixie Union) Weight: 8-13 / Rating: 96lbs

Trained in Deauville by Stéphane Cérulis, sold for €12,000 at the Deauville sales, she didn't finish better than 3rd so far, in four races. Well beaten by Anasia and then Magna Mater, she finished well and could still improve on that.
