Conseil de Paris Report: Baron Samedi leads young brigade

Sunday, 25 October 2020, ParisLongchamp. - It is at the end of a long and lively duel between the only two 3-year-olds at the start of this 123rd Prix du Conseil de Paris (Gr2) that the Irish-trained Baron Samedi (Harbor Watch) defeated the French colt Mare Australis (Australia). After galloping in fourth, Baron Samedi attacked the front-running Dariyma (City Zip) you furlongs out, then had to fend off the relentless attack of Mare Australis, who had travelled behind the leader. At just over a length, Eudaimonia (State Vision) finished well in third.
 

Trained in Ireland by Joseph O’Brien, bought €3,500 as a weanling at the Irish sales, withdrawn from the HIT Newmarket sale in August, Baron Samedi has a 2-year-old sister by Ardad registered for January sales in Goffs, Ireland.
His victory at ParisLongchamp is his first success at Group level. He had won four consecutive handicaps since his castration at the end of August.
