Tuesday, August 2, 2022, Deauville-Touques Racecourse (Calvados). – Elected the favourite of the Darley Prix de Cabourg (Gr3) after finishing second to his unbeatable stablemate Blackbeard in the Darley Prix Robert Papin (Gr2), Aidan O'Brien-trained The Antarctic (Dark Angel) this time dominated after following a front of three leaders who travelled at high speed from the start. Indeed, Wootton City (Wootton Bassett), Good Guess (Kodiac) and Manhattan Jungle (Bungle Inthejungle) took the lead. However, two out, only Manhattan Jungle could still hold on and took the lead on his own before suffering the decisive attack of The Antarctic, who won by a length. Coming along the winner after being blinded to enter her starting stalls, Kerindia (Cotai Glory) finished third at less than a length ahead of the first French-trained home, Sivana (Goken).
The Antarctic was bought for £750,000 at Tattersalls, a price that is easily explained by the fact that he’s a brother to the great sprinter Battaash, bought £200,000 six years earlier at the same venue. However, this is a little less than the £800,000 granted for Battaash's own sister, so far unraced.
