Sunday 22 August 2021, Deauville-La Touques Racecourse (Calvados). - It was at the end of a breathtaking chase that the 150th Darley Prix Kergorlay (Gr2) favourite, Skazino (Kendargent), won his third group race of the year, finally overtaking the runaway German raider Rip Van Lips (Rip Van Winkle).
Trained by Cédric Rossi, Skazino himself had just narrowly failed against Valia in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2). Nevertheless: in four races, since he was aimed at longer races, the representative of Haras de la Gousserie has brought in nearly € 300,000 to his connections, and an additional € 40,000 to his breeder, Guy Pariente.
To succeed in this winning comeback, Skazino had to cover the last six hundred meters in 35''21, thus redoing almost two seconds that separated him from Rip Van Lips at the entrance of the home stretch, at an average of 7 tenths per furlong.
Bought € 22,000 as a yearling in Deauville by Paul Nataf and bought back € 150,000 in 2019 at the Arqana Arc sale, Skazino is the full brother to another Marseilles star, Skalleti, and to the unraced 2-year-old Skalli.
