Friday, July 14, 2023, ParisLongchamp Racecourse (Paris). – Always well placed behind the leader Gagarin's Moon (Sea the Moon), the aptly named The Good Man (Manduro) took over at the entrance to the straight of this €130,000 Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Gr2) and kept going to the finish, bravely holding off River of Stars (Sea the Stars), who came from far back, and the favourite Sober (Camelot), who was giving three pounds for having beaten The Good Man in the Vicomtesse Vigier (Gr2). After travelling last, Skazino (Kendargent) took 4th place at five lengths.

On the other hand, the Good Man had not yet won at this level since he had notably finished second in the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr2) in 2021.

The second dam of The Good Man, Luas Line (Danehill), took 3rd place in the Irish 1000 Guineas (Gr1) and then won the Garden City Breeders' Cup Handicap (Gr1) at Belmont Park over 9 furlongs. Trained by Nicolas Clément, So Good (Galileo), The Good Man's mother, finished twice third in handicap with a 69lbs. She was bought for €45,000 at Arqana by Gérard Larrieu (Chantilly Bloodstock), co-breeder of The Good Man with Haras d'Idernes and Haras de Saint-Faust. The Good Man, who was not sold, is owned by Adrian Pratt, Martin Ingram, Peter David Anwyl-Harris, Stéphane Wattel and Lord Clinton.

The 3-year-old brother by Kheleyf was claimed in November 2021 and ran once afterwards, for Guy Pariente, before being mated to Goken, from whom she had a colt this year. A filly by Zarak was born in 2021 and was unsold in October 2022 at Deauville at €57,000.

A Goliath du Berlais filly was born in 2022.
