Sunday 4th June 2023, Chantilly Racecourse (Oise). - The French 1,000 Guineas form has held up well. Both placed in this classic, Kelina (Frankel) and Sauterne (Kingman) dominated the Prix de Sandringham (Gr2), also contested over the mile, but with the order reversed from their May 14th encounter at ParisLongchamp.

Quickly amongst the leading group, the Wertheimer & Frère homebred showed an impressive turn of foot in the straight, putting in a high-class performance over the penultimate furlong, clocking in 10''70, according to the tracking report. Sauterne (Kingman), who had beaten her in the Poule d'Essai, tried in vain to catch up and had to settle for an easy second place, well clear of the pace-setter, Paz (Siyouni), who was three lengths behind.

Kelina is out of Incahoots (Oasis Dream), a sister to We Are (Dansili), With You (Dansili) and Call the Wind (Frankel), all three being Group 1 winners. The dam had raced for her breeder, George Strawbridge. At 4, she won the Prix Saônois (L) on the all-weather track at Cagnes-sur-Mer after being purchased for £420,000 by the Wertheimer brothers at Tattersalls without leaving Freddy Head's stable.

Kelina is her third foal, followed by a 2-year-old by Lope de Vega and a yearling by Frankel.

Last December in Deauville, the Wertheimers sold the unraced 3-year-old Quechuach (Dark Angel) for €75,000 to Langlais Bloodstock.
