November 12, 2022, Auteuil Racecourse (Paris). – Five of the 10 three-years-old fillies in the €175,000 Haras d’Étreham Prix Magalen Bryant 3yo Hurdle (Gr2) skirmished the whole way through as the well-fancied Katiana du Berlais (Martaline) was pulled up early.

Jazzy Senam (Jeu Saint Eloi) and My Kalissy (Coastal Path) led first, showing the way to Garde de Burge (Kapgarde), Namour Has (Doctor Dino) and Politha (Joshua Tree), while the most favoured Angela du Berlais (Great Pretender) was lagging a bit just behind them. Going into the last bend, My Kalissy soon faded, and Jazzy Senam took over. He was challenged soon after by Namour Has, who also faded in the final stages. On the contrary, Garde de Burge gained momentum and finally won easily by 5 lengths, beating Politha, who stayed on well, and Angela du Berlais, who finished well at another 3.5 lengths.

Trained in Senonnes by Joël Boisnard for her breeder, Haras de Sainte-Gauburge, Garde de Burge was running her third race. A winner for her debuts at the Bouscat in September, 2nd to Jazzy Senam, who gave her 7lbs for her 2nd trial, Garde de Burge was now competing at a level weight, and she didn't seem to care that much about it!

Garde de Burge was unsold at € 34,000 as a yearling at Arqana. Her best brother, Martator (Martaline), 2nd in the Prix Alain du Breil 4yo Hurdle (Gr1) won by Hermès Baie and then third in the Renaud du Vivier 4yo Hurdle (Gr1), was unsold at €175,000 after that. Last November at Tattersalls, their weanling Maxios sister was sold for €35,000 at Tattersalls en Irlande to Haras de l’Hotellerie, who had consigned most of the family to the sale, including the dam Tornada (Ballingarry), a dual Listed-winner at Auteuil, to Guy Petit in November 2020 at Arqana, in foal to Goliath du Berlais, for €52,000. It was, again, Guy Petit who bought her as a yearling for €70,000.

Since then, she was exported to Ireland, where Haras de l’Hotellerie went to fetch her youngest foal four days only before this timely update!
