Saturday, 10th June 2023, Auteuil Racecourse (Paris). - Motu Fareone (Getaway) delivered a remarkable performance in €247,000 Drags Chase (Gr2) to defeat all the favourites of this last spring Chasing event at Auteuil. The representative of Pierre de Maleissye and her trainer David Cottin led the race from start to finish. Still, in the final turn, this small-sized mare seemed to be overtaken by Ho La La Forez (Saddler Maker) and Spes Militurf (König Turf), marked by the favourite Gran Diose (Planteur), who carried more weight than everyone else. However, between the last two jumps, the 7-year-old mare bred in Ireland by Sean Gorman regained the lead and pulled away to win by two lengths ahead of another mare, La Manigance (No Risk At All), who had followed her in this final surge. Gran Diose claimed third place, seeming to have been rather outpaced in the run-in, three lengths behind the leading mares.

Motu Fareone has only recently entered the elite level of French steeplechasing. This was her 19th race, and her main achievements until now were a fourth-place finish at Waregem in the Grand Steeple des Flandres, a victory in a lower-level race, the Prix Violon II (L), and five other wins at Pau, Cagnes, Blain-Bouvron-Le Gavre, Clairefontaine, and Auteuil, in both disciplines. Apart from a fall at Compiègne Chase in March, this brave mare had rarely missed the podium and never finished out of the money. As a result, her earnings now amount to approximately €370,000!

Motu Fareone was never offered for sale, but her siblings have been on multiple occasions. Her 3-year-old brother by Order of Saint George is actually catalogued for the Goffs Arkle Sale on 13th June! The dam, Arrive in Style (King's Theatre), did not win in France, where she was trained. Motu Fareone is one of her two winning progeny. However, the second dam, Kates Charm (Glacial Storm), won the Cleeve Hurdle (Gr1) at Cheltenham...
