Sunday, 28 July 2024, Deauville-Touques Racecourse (Calvados). An impressive winner on her debut in May over 6 furlongs at Chantilly, Daylight (Earthlight) was subsequently outperformed by Arabie over the same distance in the Prix du Bois Longines (Gr3) after a challenging run. Forty-two days later in this €80,000 Prix de Cabourg (Gr2), she returned to the same distance on the flat track of Deauville.

This time, she raced behind the two leaders, the English colt Columnist (Ardad), a recent close third in the Coventry Stakes (Gr2) at Royal Ascot, and his compatriot Naana’s Diamond (Invincible Army), before taking control in the final phase. She beat Polyvega (Lope de Vega) by nearly three lengths, with the latter just holding off the fast-finishing Columnist, who she had appeared to pass easily at the distance.

Daylight was purchased for €85,000 as a yearling at the Deauville sales by Peretti Bloodstock. Her dam, Latita (Silver Frost), concluded a successful 2-year-old campaign with three wins, including the Critérium du Languedoc (L). Third in the Prix de la Grotte (Gr3) on her seasonal debut, she failed twice afterwards before being retired to stud, initially sold for €20,000 when leaving training to Haras du Cadran, co-breeder of Daylight. Since then, the mare has produced a yearling colt by Zelzal and a filly by Teofilo. A 3-year-old by Churchill, Upside Down, is in training with Jean-Claude Rouget, who trained her dam for her second campaign. He won on his fourth attempt, at Tarbes, nine days after his younger sister opened her account.

Latita is from a full sister to Manzor (Cricket Ball), winner of the Prix du Petit Couvert (Gr3).
