Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Deauville-La Touques Racecourse (Calvados). - The favourite in the €80,000 Prix des Réservoirs (Gr3), a mile race for 2-year-old fillies run on good ground, Aventure (Sea the Stars), after her impressive victory in the Prix de Toutevoie, couldn't withstand the superiority of Tulipa Chope (Born To Sea). The latter made the difference halfway down the straight and put herself out of reach of her best rival's late charge. Aventure, who had been trailing for a long time, covered the final 3 furlongs in 33.46 seconds, which was only two-tenths better than the winner, and not enough to bridge the one lentgh gap that separates them at the finish. The favourite also clocked the fastest furlong in 10.62 seconds, compared to 10.79 seconds for the winner and the third-placed Dollerina (Territories), who travelled alongside the field throughout and thus deserves credit, finishing ¾ length behind the second.
The time of 1:43.75 is 3 to 7 seconds better than the two maiden races held just before on this course and distance.
It was the fifth outing for the winner and her third victory, following her successful debut in Bordeaux in May and her Critérium du Fonds Européen de l’Élevage (L), under the colours of owner Alain Jathière, who acquired her after her debut win for owner-trainer Kevin Tavares.
Her first trainer purchased her for €5,000 at the Osarus sales in August of last year. Bred jointly by Alain Chopard and Cédric Boutin, Tulipa Chope is out of the hurdle-winning mare in Hyères, Tulipe Rouge (Panis), already the dam of two flat and obstacle winners, hailing from a Lagardère-Aga Khan family, oruoginating from the great Vadlava. She has a 4-years-old sister, Blood Chope (Kheleyf), still a maiden after 39 attempts but still the earner of €61,483 - she finished second in a handicap at Argentan the day before the Prix des Réservoirs with a rating of 42 - and more recently, a Gutaifan filly.
