Winner last year of Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas, Gr1) over ParisLongchamp's mile, Olmedo (Declaration of War) failed to win again since then.

In Prix Gontaut-Biron Hong Kong Jockey Club (Gr3), for his first test over a mile-and-a-quarter, Thursday at Deauville, he showed everyone why he still had the best rating in the race. Owned by Antonio Caro and Gérard Augustin-Normand, he won by a length at the expense of the English leader Moutain Angel (Dark Angel), giving him two pounds, and probably reached his best rating since his classic success. The third-placed Trais Fluors (Dansili), almost three lengths behind the winner, sets a high standard for the race, even though 5yo Trais Fluros could be below his best, less efficient over 10 furlongs and possibly affected by the very soft turf.

The Gontaut-Biron's aged horses completed the 2,000m-trip of Deauville in 2'06 '', seven seconds faster than the 3- year-olds in the Guillaume d'Ornano, because the race was faster early on, as Olmedo was relayed by Subway Dancer (Shamardal) and Mountain Angel before the first turn.

Olmedo was bought for € 100,000 at Arqana by his trainer in August 2016. He was consigned by the Haras des Capucines for Dream With Me Stable (Jean-Pierre Dubois).

Super Pie (Pivotal), the dam of Olmedo, bred by Jean-Pierre Dubois, won at Deauville under for Dream With Me Stable, trained by Yann Porzier. She is out of the excellent Super Lina (Linamix), who won the Prix Pénélope (Gr3) for Jean-Pierre Dubois and trainer Yves de Nicolaÿ.
