The Prix Greffulhe (Gr2) is generally contested in May at Saint-Cloud, the only left-hand flat racecourse in the Paris region. This year, due to the health crisis, it takes place this Saturday, June 6 in Lyon-Parilly, on one of the most beautiful turf courses in the country. It would remain suitable to prepare the Epsom Derby, scheduled this year on July 4 but with no entry from the Continent, the race will only serve the French Derby, disputed on July 5, but on the right-hand Chantilly course and over 2,100m, a distance of one hundred yards shorter than that of the 2020 “Greffulhe”, run over 11 furlongs due to the configuration of the Parilly course. Of course, the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (Gr1) is still a long-term possibility, even though it takes place this year in September.

Nine colts were confirmed at the start of this early Derby, including five trained in the provinces.
