GABELLO (c3), FRA by Galiway ex Kenbella (Kendargent)

€27,000 Prix Tertullien (Maiden 3-year-olds, 2,000m/10f), March 29, Saint-Cloud

  • Owners: Guy Pariente & Pascal Bary (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: Pascal Bary
  • Breeder: Guy Pariente (French-bred, French sire: 13% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium, +50% as black-type dam & sire in France for 5yrs max = €4,054)
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Beaten one length by Saiydabad (Blame) for his debut in February at Chantilly on the all-weather, Gabello (Galiway) has led the way this time and won easily by almost two lengths. He beats Mutabahi (French Fifteen), who just held Susu’s Dimples (Sea the Stars), whom rider Pierre-Charles Boudot was suspended ten days for failing to support his mount all the way, losing the 2nd place in the process.

Gabello was sold for € 40,000 to his trainer Pascal Bary at the Arqana October 2019 sale. The trainer is now also the owner of the colt along with his breeder, Guy Pariente. The colt's dam Kenbella (Kendargent) ran in 12 Listed-races between February 2013 and October 2014, winning one, over 9 furlongs at Longchamp. Gabello is the third and so far the last foal after Bellaway (Galiway), now 4, and winner in February of her second handicap.

SIBILA SPAIN (f3), IRE by Frankel ex L’Ancresse (Darshaan)

€27,000 Prix Monade (Unraced 3-year-old fillies, 2,000m/2f1m), March 25, Saint-Cloud

  • Owner: Yeguada Centurion (Prizemoney: €13,500 / Irish-bred, no Owners' Premium)
  • Trainer: Christopher Head
  • Breeder: Coolmore Stud (Irish-bred, no Breeders' Premium)
  • Rider: Aurélien Lemaître

After leading the race, Sibila Spain (Frankel) dominated the party as she won by 9 lengths on the bit. Play All Day (Kitten’s Joy) finished well in second. It was one of the most impressive wins so far this season.

Sibila Spain was bred in Ireland by Coolmore and privately sold for € 240,000 at Arqana as a yearling. Her gelding 4-year-old brother made £35,000 in August at Tattersalls. They are out of the classic-placed L’Ancresse (Darshaan), won sister to the champion mare Cerulean Sky.

A full sister to the stayer Master of Reality, an Ascot Gold Cup (Gr1) 3rd and a Melbourne Cup (Gr1) 4th, Sibila Spain is not yet entered in any major race.

TRABUCO (c3), FRA by Intello ex Tropa de Elite (Street Cry)

€27,000 Prix Suave Dancer (Unraced 3-year-old colts & geldings, 2,000m/1m2f), March 25, Saint-Cloud

  • Owner: Arthur Mendes (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainers: Etienne & Grégoire Leenders
  • Breeder: Arthur Mendes (French-bred, French sire: 13% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium, +50% as black-type dam & sire in France for 5yrs max = €4,054)
  • Rider: Eddy Hardouin

After travelling in 6th place in a field led by Seulomonde (Dubawi) and Diverge (Frankel), Trabuco (Intello) made his move early enough in the last straight et took over about 300 yards out. he then kept off Diverge, who bravely stayed on to keep the 2nd place by resisting Bristol Hill (New Bay), who had been briefly boxed in. Bel Aristo (New Approach) finished well at about a length of the leading trio, just holding a pleasant Stonetail (Frankel).

Trabuco was unsold at € 40,000 € at Arqana in August 2019, when consigned by Haras du Mézeray.

Trabuco is the 4th foal out of the Us-bred mare Tropa de Elite (Street Cry), partly bred by Arthur Mendes and racd in Brazil, where she won a Gr3 mile at Cidade Jardim. A Cloth of Stars filly was born since.

Trabuco is not entered in any major race.

FAVARITX (c3), FRA by Shalaa ex Macarella (Shamardal)

€27,000 Prix du Plessis-Luzarches (Maiden 3-year-olds, 1,400m7f AWT), March 23, Chantilly

  • Owner: Cuadra Mediterraneo (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: Maurice Delcher-Sanchez
  • Breeder: Cuadra Mediterraneo (French-bred, French sire: 13% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €2,702)
  • Rider: Christophe Soumillon

Well started, then kept behind the leaders, including Laura Mars (Elusive Quality), Favaritx (Shalaa) finally took over the latter in the last furlong while Live (Outstrip) finished well in 2nd at a good length. Ivresse (Invincible Spirit) also was closing in but couldn't quite beat Laura mars for 3rd. The others were 3 lengths down and more.

It was the 6th trial for Favaritx, who had finished 2nd four times before, after a 3rd place for his debut at Deauville in July last year.

Bought as a weanling for £ 52,000 in 2011, Macarella (Shamardal), Favaritx's dam, was herself out of Anbella (Common Grounds), winner at 2 of the Prix Roland de Chambure (L) and a sister to the champion mare Satwa Queen (Muhtathir). Macarella, who won at Fontainebleau for Cuadra Mediterraneo, then gave Cigalera (Elusive Quality), a Prix Texanita (Gr3) second, then Marieta (Siyouni), 2nd in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr1). Favaritx is her third foal, and only colt to date, as a Dabirsim filly and a Cracksman filly born in 20 follow.

THE GREY LADY (f3), FRA by Saint des Saints ex Turn in Grey (Martaline)

€52,000 Auricula Hurdle (Hurdle race, 3-year-old fillies unraced over jumps, 3,000m/1m7f), March 20, Auteuil

  • Owners: Jean-Michel Bazire & Louis Baudron (Prizemoney = €24,960)
  • Trainer: Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé
  • Breeder: Louis Baudron (French-bred, 14.5% Breeders' Premium: €3,619)
  • Rider: Pierre Dubourg

Favourite despite the fact that she never raced before, The Grey Lady (Saint des Saints) made a big impression here. She looked well-beaten entering the last straight but somehow gained momentum and went sprinting from the last jump to the wire, beating the two front-runners Out of Risk (No Risk At All) and Lady Martaline (Martaline). It's also interesting to note that the winning rider was fined for a weight excess of over a pound!

The full sister to De Bon Cœur, De Bonne Grâce (Vision d’État), did well, finishing 5th despite being almost brought down in the latest jumps.

The Grey Lady is owned by famous trotting trainers Jean-Michel Bazire and Louis Baudron, the latter also being the winner's breeder. Her dam Turn In Grey (Martaline) won at Auteuil the Christian de Tredern Hurdle (Gr3) trained and owned by Louis Baudron.

The Grey Lady's full sister is born a year after her, and then a Kamsin was born last year.

LORASON (g3), GB by Gentlewave ex Loralas (Kahyasi)

€52,000 Rush Hurdle (Hurdle race, 3-year-old colts & geldings unraced over jumps, 3 000m/1m7f), March 20, Auteuil

  • Owners: Christopher John Ewdwards, David Futter & Gabriel Leenders (Prizemoney = €24,960)
  • Trainer: Gabriel Leenders
  • Breeder: Yorton Farm (Uk-Bred, no breeders' Premium)
  • Rider: Clément Lefebvre

Well placed behind the leaders, the favourite Lorason (Gentlewave) found himself leading when the front-runner Brainstorm (No Risk At All) lost his balance in the back straight. However, Lorason was unable to make a real difference and he had to fight all the way, especially after a mistake at the last that could have cost him dearly. He was always put under pressure by his followers, whom he finally beat by two lengths, the 2nd-placed Imitateur (Coastal Path) doing his best to challenge him in the run-in.

The winner had never raced before.

Bred in the UK, Lorason had been withdrawn at the Goffs sale as a yearling, while his Clovis du Berlais brother was sold at the Goffs Yorton Sale last September for £ 15,000 by French trainer David Cottin.

ROMAN BAMB (f3), FRA by Holy Roman Emperor ex Bambara (High Chaparral)

€27,000 Prix Talweg (Maiden 3-year-old Fillies, 2,100m/10.5f AWT), March 18, Chantilly

  • Owner: Rashit Shaykhutdinov (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: Georgios Alimpinisis
  • Breeder: Rashit Shaykhutdinov (French-bred, Foreign sire: 8.5% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €1,767)
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Well placed, next to the leading filly, Roman Bamb (Holy Roman Emperor) took over two out when challenged by Sentimental Mambo (Stacelita) and she was nerve really challenged after that. She beat Shifting Winds (Intello) and Olatz (Siyouni) by two good lengths.

It was her 3rd race, her first over the distance after a 6th for her debut over a short mile, then the 3rd place at Cagnes-sur-Mer in February over 1m2f.

Consigned by Haras du Mézeray at Deauville in October 2019, Roman Bamb was unsold at € 5,000. Her dam Bambara (High Chaparral) never raced, but she's the sister of a Listed winner. Also bred by Rashit Shaykhutdinov, she already gave a winner in Belgium by Kendargent. More recently, she foaled a De Treville filly born in 2019, and a Zoffany colt born in 2020.

BAHA MAR (c3), FRA by Siyouni ex Indiana Wells (Sadler’s Wells)

€27,000 Prix Tandem (Maiden 3-year-old colts & geldings, 2,100m/10.5f AWT), March 18, Chantilly

  • Owner: Berend van Dalfsen (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: Mikel Delzangles
  • Breeder: Berend van Dalfsen (French-bred, French sire: 13% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €2,702)
  • Rider: Gérald Mossé

Always behind the leading group by the rail, following the front-running Théorème (Doctor Dino), Baha Mar (Siyouni) easily passed the latter without seeing to be much used and won by a good length while her rival just held his ground to keep the 2nd place, a nose over Black Hawk (Scissor Kick).

It was a second test for Baha Mar after a 3rd place on this very track, but over 9.5f a month earlier, and rather pleasantly.

Baha Mar was unsold at £160,000 as a yearling at Tattersalls. However, his maiden full sister of 4-years-old, Siyou in Deauville (Siyouni), was sold for €60,000, in foal to Magna Grecia at the Breeding sale in Deauville last Winter. Both are siblings to Ellerslie Lace (Siyouni), a Listed and Group-placed, all of them being grand-children to Clara Bow (Top Ville), dam of Turtle Bowl (Dyhim DIamond) and Turtle Bow (Turtle Island) amongst others.

Baha Mar's dam, Indiana Wells (Sadler’s Wells), was exported to Australia.

INTÉGRANT (c3), FRA by Frankel ex Via Manzoni (Monsun)

€27,000 Prix de la Broutillerie (Maiden 3-year-old colts & geldings, 1,800m/9f AWT), March 16, Chantilly

  • Owner: Hisaaki Saito (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: Henri-François Devin
  • Breeder: Haras de Saint-Pair (French-bred, Foreign sire: 8.5% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €1,767)
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Intégrant (Frankel) was sold for £525,000 as a yearling at Tattersalls by his breeder, Haras de Saint-Pair. Since then, the same consignor sold at Deauville his older sister, the maiden 3-year-old Via Liguria (Lope de Vega), for €52,000. Winner of two races and Group-placed, their dam Via Manzoni (Monsun) is herself out of Via Milano (Singspiel), a Group3-winner at 2 and the second dam of Japanese champion miler Admire Mars (Daiwa Major).

Although he's not entered in any major event, the cold was a beginner here facing more experienced runners and he beat them fair and square, coming from the rear of this little seven-strong field. He beats Cosmas (Soldier Hollow) by three lengths while Juan Seguin (Invincible Spirit) finishes well in third.

LADY DAY (f3), FRA by Motivator ex Toride (Fuissé)

Prix de la Croix des Ormeaux (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 1,800m/9f AWT), March 16, Chantilly

  • Owner: Écurie Rose de Ganay (Prizemoney: €13,500 / French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: Freddy Head
  • Breeder: Haras du Quesnay (French-bred, French sire: 13% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €2,702)
  • Rider: Aurélien Lemaître

4th in the Prix de la Cascade for her debut, last September at Longchamp, then 3rd at Fontainebleau, again over a mile, she looked like a winner at one stage on that day, as she took the lead about one hundred yards out, before failing to keep it. Lady Day (Motivator) held her ground, this time, and held every rival off to beat Carmen (Siyouni) by a neck, while a good finishing Romantic Rival (Shamardal), a beginner, took the third place just behind.

Lady Day was sold for €170,000 to Freddy Head at Arqana in August 2019. Her Intello brother was sold €72,000 to Christophe Ferland in October at Deauville. Their dam Toride (Fuissé) is an unraced sister to the dual Arc-winner Trève (Motivator).

Lady Day is entered in the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French One Thousand Guineas, Gr1), the Saxon Warrior Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (Gr1) and the Prix de Diane Longines (French Oaks, Gr1).

SAIYDABAD (c3), USA by Blame ex Sarkiyla (Oasis Dream)

€27,000 Prix de la Traversière (Unraced 3-year-old colts and geldings, 1,900m/9.5f AWT), March 6, Deauville

  • Trainer: Jean-Claude Rouget
  • Breeder: Aga Khan (US-bred 3yo, no Breeders' Premium)
  • Rider: Christophe Soumillon

An easy win for US-bred Saiydabad (Blame), who came by in 6th early on behind a leader and was pushed along front-runner Gabello (Galiway) to take over in the last furlong. He wins by a good length over Gabello with a fast-finishing Alastor (Helmet) well in 3rd after taking some time to reach momentum.

Saiydabad is the 4th foal out of Sarkiyla (Oasis Dream) according to France Galop's files, and her first winner. She also gave a Distorted Humor filly in training with Jean-Claude Rouget and a Siyouni colt in 2020. She herself was sold in foal to Le Havre for €35,000 at Arqana to Chantilly Bloodstock Agency (Gérard Larrieu). Shewon the Prix de Lieurey (Gr3) and was second to Romantica in a Prix Jean Romanet (Gr1).

  • Rider: Eddy Hardouin

Beautiful Aspen (Dabirsim) travelled well in 4tth place and went past the front-running Rivaport (Le Havre) in the last 100 yards to score by a length. Loisaba (Lope de Vega) looked like a potential winner one out but stayed on in 3rd.

Beautiful Aspen was sold for €38,000 as a yearling at Baden-Baden, where she was consigned by Haras du Château de Rabondanges, then she was unsold at €51,000 at the Osarus breeze-up last year. However, her Recorder sister was consigned by Haras d’Ombreville and sold €3,500 at Baden-Baden. Their dam Aspen Darlin (Indian Haven) finished 2nd in the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr1), her ninth race at 2. She was pulled up in the Guineas the following season for her comeback and her last ever race. Beautiful Aspen is her 5th foal and her first winner.

AMY C (f3), GB by Charming Thought ex Alzahra (Exceed and Excel)

€27,000 Prix de Saint-Valéry (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 1,500m/7.5f AWT), March 6, Deauville

OZAN (c3), FRA by Toronado ex Amlak (Invincible Spirit)

  • Rider: Pierre-Charles Boudot

Ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot for the first time, in his 4th outing, Ozan (Toronado) led all the way and won by 3.5 lengths, only pushed ahead. Favaritx (Shalaa) followed him until the last straight and just couldn't keep up, still leaving the field another 3 lengths back, recording his 4th 2nd place in a row.

Ozan had only got beaten half a length by Mysterious Land, who went on in 4th in a Class 2 race, doing extremely well.

Ozan was paid  €20,000 at Arqana by MAB Agency (Marc-Antoine Berghgracht). His dam was sold last Decembrer at he Deauville breeding sale for a mere €1,000 in foal to Garswood. Last month, at Deauville again, c’est la sœur cadette d’Ozan's younger sister by Panis sold for €1,000 too …

PILE OU FACE (c3), FRA by Goken ex Bright Smile (Elusive City)

€27,000 Prix de Saint-Léonard-des-Parcs (Maiden 3-year-olds, 1,300m/6.5f AWT), March 5, Deauville

  • Breeder: Annie Delarue (French-bred, French sire: 13% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €2,702)
  • Rider: Vincent Cheminaud

Fast ahead, Pile ou Face (Goken) led all the way, just holding Complication (No Nay Never) at a short neck. She had already failed by a short head for her recent debut at Chantilly over the mile ... The others finished at more than three lengths.

It was Pile ou Face's second race, three months after finishing fourth, notably behind Hallowed Time (Hallowed Crown), only tenth this time.

Pile ou Face was purchased for € 20,000 by bloodstock agent Paul Nataf for Jacques Cygler at Arqana V2 sales. His dam Bright Smile (Elusive City) was sold at the Deauville breeding auction last winter for € 2,000, in foal to Whitecliffsofdover. A maiden out of another maiden, the mare's 2nd dam is no other than Prix de Diane (Gr1) winner Bright Sky (Wolfhound). She gave two winners before Pile ou Face, then a Birchwood cold sold for € 12,000 as a yearling, and a colt again by Whitecliffsofdover, now a yearling.

The favourite Watch Him (Elvstroem) travelled in 5th or 6th position, on a second line with cover, in a race led by a keen Karkhov (Lope de Vega), who'd taken a few lengths over Cerulean (Siyouni), leader of the field.

One out, the front-runner was caught by Cerulean and Watch Him with Zaffonix Bay (Zoffany) in their wake along the rail. Watch Him finally took over and kept a length ahead of Zaffonix Bay, who finished well when he finally found his stride, with Cerulean. Karkhov sateydd on in 4th beaten 2.5 lengths, beating Chirimiri (Territories), who ran green and will get monitored from now on.

The winner was sold € 100,000 at Arqana. His full brother went for €60,000 € to trainer Pia Brandt in September in Deauville. Both are siblings to the champion filly Watch Me (Olympic Glory), a Coronation Stakes (Gr1) winner at Royal Ascot.

NOHAND (f3), (GB) by Dansili ex Balladeuse (Singspiel)

€27,000 Prix du Soissonnais (Unraced 3-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m AWT), March 2, Chantilly

  • Owners: Wertheimer&Frère (Prizemoney: €13,500 / UK-born, French-bred 3yo: 90% provision on 60% Owners' Premium: €7,290 = €20,790)
  • Trainer: André Fabre
  • Breeders: Wertheimer&Frère (UK-born, French-bred , Foreign sire: 8.5% Breeder's Premium on prizemoney + owner's premium = €1,767)
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Quite keen early on, the favourite Nohand (Dansili) travelled in 6th behind American Story (Dark Angel) as Laura Mars (Elusive Quality) was leading leisurely. She stayed on in front until 100 yards out when Nohand took over easily to score by almost 2 lengths. Tourbe (Wootton Bassett) was the only one able to stay with the two first home. Trained by Fabrice Chappet like the 2nd-placed, she's 3rd only half a length back.

The Prix du Beauvaisis's colts went 3’’ faster than the fillies but they went much faster in the last 3 furlongs, as the fractionals included in our results pages would show. Laura Mars led from two to one out in 9’’94, while Nohand took 11’’16 to reach the post in the last furlong.

Nohand is out of Balladeuse (Singpsiel), like the Vermeille-winner Left Hand (Dubawi) and Right Hand (Lope de Vega), sold as a maiden for €370,000 at the latest Arqana Breeding sale. A Dubawi & Balladeuse colt was born in 2019.
