THAT’S MY POWER (c3), FRA by Almanzor ex Train Time (Rail Link)

Prix de l’Allée Elf (Maiden 3-year-olds, 2,100m/10.5f AWT), March 31, Chantilly

Owner: Georg Kern

Breeder: Henri Alex Pantall

Breeder: Georg Kern

Rider: Cristian Demuro

That’s My Power (Almanzor) led a group of four who finally reached the post unchallenged. Second-placed on this same track for his debut a few weeks back over 9.5 furlongs, he seemed to relish the longer distance but still veered left twice, entering the last straight and in the final stages. However, the stewards ruled that this didn't affect the result of the race and he was declared the outright winner, beating Another Way (Anodin) by three parts of a length while the two fillies, Tahasun (Tamayuz) and Shahnameh (Churchill), finished in this order three lengths behind.

That’s My Power is part of the first generation by Almanzor (Wootton Bassett), who'd been rated 133 at 3 and already gave black-type performers and about fifteen winners.

The winner's dam Train Time (Rail Link) won in Ireland on the all-weather but did not race for her breeder, Juddmonte, unlike her sister Protectress (Hector Protector), a Listed-winner at Newmarket, or Market Forces (Lomitas), a Listed-placed.

Train Time had been sold at Arqana in 2017 to Chris Richner Bloodstock for € 100,000 for Georg Kern's breeding operation. Her first foal, a filly named Temps Fantastique (Camelot), also ran for her breeder at Henri-Alex Pantall's. the 2020 Dream Ahead filly, The Finest Hours, was sold at the 2021 October yearling sales at Deauville to Eric Lemaître for € 4,000

DEMARCAY (c3), GB by Postponed ex Europium (Frankel)

Prix Suave Dancer (Maiden 3-year-old colts & geldings, 2,000m/1m2f), March 24, Saint-Cloud

  • Owner: Succession Khalid Addullah
  • Trainer: Francis H. Graffard
  • Breeder: Juddmonte Farms Stud
  • Rider: Christophe Soumillon

A good lot of well-bred maiden runners, including Ingres (Galileo), the first foal out of Gr1 winner Esotérique (Danehill Dancer) with Galileo. Supplemented for the race, he had also run once in a schooling race and took the lead here. Joined about halfway by the favourite Demarcay (Postponed), he opened the final straight trying to take off but the first leader soon gave in. Mascagni (Siyouni), on the other hand, was closing fast from 2 out and briefly took over Demarcay before the latter, showing enough resolution to come back and score by a nose. The two first home closed the last furlong in 11”70. Excelsior (Motivator), who had run in the rear, also sprinted well to take third place in front of Ingres.

Demarcay is off the first Postponed (Dubawi) offspring and the very first foal out of Europium (Frankel), a Juddmonte-bred unraced mare. She's a sister to Commemorative (Zamindar), a Newmarket Gr3 winner at 2 who failed in the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita.

This the great bloodline of Hasili (Kahyasi), which gave Gr1 performers such as Cacique, Intercontinental, Champs Elysées, Banks Hill or Dansili ...

Europium was twice listed at Tattersalls and twice withdrawn, first out of training at 3, and then at the 2020 Breeding sale.

SAMAHRAM (f3), FRA by Sea The Moon ex Djumama (Aussie Rules)

Prix Monade (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 2,000m/1m2f), March 24, Saint-Cloud

  • Owner: Al Shaqab Racing
  • Trainer: Francis H. Graffard
  • Breeder: Gestüt Etzean
  • Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

In the day fillies' maiden. Qarasha (Nathaniel) was favourite. Trained by André Fabre, she started midfield and was unable to make progress in the final stages of a race led by Estiva (Sea The Moon). The latter run bravely but couldn't quite keep up with two closers, Samahram (Sea The Moon), who had been supplemented and went from 7th to 1st in two furlongs to score by almost a length in front of Silver Sign (Reliable Man), who also finished well. Samahram was the fastest in the last furlong, which she covered in 11”40 to score in 2’09”53, a better time than the colts' maiden race.

Samahram is by the German sire Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars), out of Djumama (Aussie Rules), a Preis der Winterkönigin (Gr3) winner at 2 before another Group win and a second place in the German Oaks. She also finished 5th in the 2011 Prix de l’Opéra (Gr1). At stud, her three first foals were all Group performers, namely Djumay (Shamardal), Duchess of Danzig (Sea the Stars) and Djukon (Jukebox Jury). The third dam of Samahram is a full sister to Barathea Guest (Barathea), a Group 3 winner in Britain and placed in a Grand Criterium (Gr1) and in the Two Thousand Guineas at Newmarket.

This beautiful pedigree dragged Al Shaqab into a €160,000 bid at the 2020 Arqana sale. The two other foals consigned at Arqana were unsold though. In 2018 and 2019 at BBAG, IVA-Alles bought Djucan (New Approach) for € 110,000, while Australian Bloodstock and David Menuisier paid €58,000 to get Diamond Cutter (Harzand).

DEEP HOPE (g3), USA by Siyouni ex Addictive (Twirling Candy)

Prix du Plessis-Luzarches (Maiden 3-year-olds, 1,400m/7f AWT), March 22, 2022,  Chantilly

- Owner: Albert Frassetto

- Trainer: Gianluca Bietolini

- Breeder: LNJ Foxwoods LLC

- Rider: Fabio Bronca

The only unraced started, Deep Hope (Siyouni) had to cope with a well-regarded field for his debut. The favourite was Girl Gone Wild (Showcasing), 2nd for her debut at 2 behind the subsequent Marcel Boussac (Gr1) winner Zélie (Wootton Bassett)! However, Deep Hope led from start to finish, holding Girl Gone Wild at one length, while Mea Domina (Povital) finished at 4 lengths along with Intello (Galileo)'s brother Ilic (Iffrajj).

According to the tracking report, Deep Hope ran every final three furlongs in between 11”16 and 11”68. The best finish was run by Ilic, who took 11”11 to cover the second last furlong.

Deep Hope is the first foal out of Addictive (Twirling Candy), a dirt winner for her debut in Florida who failed to follow up. The second dam Felicitée (Menifee) won over dirt and turf before foaling a few dirt winners.

Deep Hope was bought €90,000 at the 2020 October sale at Deauville by Marco Bozzi Bloodstock. His dam went twice to the sales in the USA. First at OBS at 2 where Solis / Litt bought her for $825,000. She was sold again in 2021 at the Keeneland breeding sale to J. Kirk Robison for a mere $15,000...

LES CERFS VOLANTS (g3), FRA by Cokoriko ex Changing Times (Martaline)

Prix Rush (3-year-old colts and geldings unraced over jumps, Hurdles, 3,000m/1m7f), March 20, 2022, Auteuil

  • Owners: Laurent Dassault, Daniel-Yves Trêve, François Nicolle, Écurie B. Weill
  • Trainer: François Nicolle
  • Breeders: Jean-Marie Callier, SNIG Élevage
  • Rider: Gwen Richard

Always travelling near the leaders, Les Cerfs Volants (Cokoriko) jumped the last hurdle along with the front-running Losange Bleu (Martaline) and he took off in the run-in to score by six lengths over Losange Bleu, second ahead of his stablemate Premier Bleu (Kapgarde), also owned by the Papot family, the favoured Le Philosophe (Doctor Dino), who held on well after hitting a flat spot, and Nertheuil (Balko).

The winner was bred in Saône-et-Loire by Jean-Marie Callier and SNIG Élevage (Florent Coutrier), then sold for €57,000 to NBB Racing (Nicolas Bertran de Balanda) at Arqana in June 2021, at 2. His Ivanhowe weanling brother was also sold soon after on Auctav.com, for €33,000, again to NBB Racing.

Their dam Changing Times (Martaline), unraced, is a full sister to Makalee (Martaline), a Group1-placed at Punchestown after racing once in France at Vichy over hurdles for Jean-Marie Callier. It is also the family of the good Cotée Sud (Lord du Sud), also bred by the same connections, and part of the best young hurdlers of her generation since she finished 2nd in the 2019 Cambacérès 3-year-old Hurdle (Gr1) and was confirmed at 4  when placed several times in Auteuil top hurdling contests.

JAZZY SENAM (f3), FRA by Jeu Saint Eloi ex Madison Road (Hernando)

Prix Auricula (3-year-old fillies unraced over jumps, Hurdles, 3,000m/1m7f), March 20, 2022, Auteuil

  • Owners: Jacques & Patrice Détré
  • Trainer: François Nicolle
  • Breeders: Pierre Senamaud & Jacques Détré
  • Rider: Gwen Richard

Still third behind the front-running Joyeuse d’Anjou (Feel Like Dancing) and Ostrea (Montmartre) at the last, Jazzy Senam (Jeu Saint Eloi) managed to catch Ostrea, who seemed to have made a difference, and finally beat her handily by three lengths, while Dixon Cove (Earl of Tinsdal) finished well in third along the stands' rail despite Olivier Jouin's waving whip on the fourth-placed Joyeuse d’Anjou.

Jazzy Senam is the 7th foal out of Madison Road (Hernando), a sister to Nas Na Riogh (King’s Theatre), winner of the Junior Hurdle (Gr1) at Chepstow. She'd been racing for owner Eric Simian at Guillaume Macaire's yard and won 4 times hurdling and chasing at Compiègne, Marseilles-Borély and Bordeaux (twice). She also finished 3rd and 4th over Auteuil's hurdles. At stud, she gave Buddy Banks (Saint des Saints), a winner of the Duc d’Anjou 4-year-olds' Chase (Gr3) for his second last run, then Road Senam (Saint des Saints), a Congress 3-year-olds' Chase (Gr2) third and Jean Stern 4-year-olds' Chase (Gr2) second before being exported to Britain, and more recently Hip Hop Senam (Saint des Saints), third in the last Fifrelet Hurdle (L) at Auteuil, also for the Detre family. a full sister to Jazzy Senam was born in 2020, named Salsa Senam.

SANTA GIULIA (f3), FRA by Shalaa ex Alpine Rose (Linamix)

Prix Talweg (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 1,900m/9.5f AWT), March 16, Chantilly

Owners: Ecurie Francky Defosse, Frédéric Sauque

Trainer: Fabrice Chappet

Breeders: Ecurie des Monceaux, Ecurie Skymarc Farm, Noir et Or Elevage S.A.

Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Speechless (Wootton Bassett) and Tinette (Whitecliffsofdover) led the field at a good rate. to the last straight but couldn't keep up with the closers later on, as Santa Giulia (Shalaa) finished well and beat Ela Kodi Mou (Kodi Bear) by a short head. The favourite Hidden Dimples (Frankel) was third at a good length. The winner had finished fourth for her debut on this very course and distance.

The winning sire Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) has already registered promising records this term as Santa Giulia is his 10th winner in 2022. Last season, he had also sired a Group 1 winner in No Speak Alexander, plus several other black-type performers in Europe and Australia.

Santa Giulia is out of the Prix Jean Romanet (Gr1) winner Alpine Rose (Linamix). It is an excellent bloodline as she's a sister to Fragrant Mix, winner of a Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Gr1). Santa Giulia is the third runner by Alpine Rose and her third winner.

Alpine Rose made the news at Arqana when sold in 2008 when Suprina secured her for €550,000. Seven of her foals went to the ring at Arqana and were sold from €32,000 to €1.2m. Presented in 2020, Santa Giulia was paid €75,000 by bloodstock agent Frédéric Sauque.

WAKABURN (c3), FRA by Wootton Bassett ex Akasti (Holy Roman Emperor)

Prix Tandem (Maiden 3-year-old colts & geldings, 1,900m/9.5f AWT), March 16, Chantilly

Owner: Ecurie Griezmann

Trainer: Philippe Decouz

Breeders: SAS Racing D, Christophe Mongin

Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Godolphin's Lucellum (Sir Percy) was the favourite of this Prix Tandem. Twice second at 2, he took the lead from the start with Sun Joy (Hunter’s Light) by his side. Two furlongs out, Lucellum went away, followed by Wakaburn (Wootton Bassett), who'd been shadowing him by the rail. Second on the same course and distance last time out, Wakaburn had been no match for Junko (Intello) that day, as he beat him by 4.5 lengths. This time, however, he was the best in the field and won his first race for his 4th attempt, beating Lucellum by three parts of a length. a fast closing Vagalame (Lope de Vega) third... at 8 lengths. The colts went a bit faster than the fillies in 1’56’’96, which is 26/100 faster.

Akasti (Holy Roman Emperor), Wakaburn's dam, had already foaled a winner in Feroe d’Iliat (Naaqoos), who finished 6 times out of 8 races in the frame. Akasti is a sister to the triple listed-winner and Group-placed Elasos (Pythios).

Ventiquattrofogli (Persian Bold) and River Boyne (Kris) feature in this maternal line.

Wakaburn was sold twice in an auction. In 2020, Longways stables got him for €90,000 as a yearling and he was sold again at the 2021 Doncaster breeze-up sales, for €174,000 to Broadhurst Agency.

IL EST FRANÇAIS (g4), AQPS FRA by Karaktar ex Millesimée (Vidéo Rock)

Prix de l’Yonne (Unraced AQPS 4-year-old colts and geldings, 3,500m/17.5f, Hurdle race), March 12, 2022, Auteuil

  • Owner: Haras de Saint Voir
  • Trainer: Nicolas de Lageneste
  • Breeder: Haras de Saint Voir
  • Rider: James Reveley

Il Est Français (Karaktar) started as the favourite in this Prix de l’Yonne and he won by 9 lengths without ever breaking a sweat on a very soft course (4,1). After three flat races at 3, and a season concluded by a Saint-Cloud 2nd place in the top race for AQPS 3-year-olds, the Prix Jacques de Vienne (Gr1 AQPS), Il Est Français has proved that jumps were what he had been longing for. He jumps perfectly, on his own ahead of the field, easily defeating In d’Or (Nidor) and Ingénieur (Cokoriko), who had run behind the leader of the chasing field Ino d’Airy (It’s Gino).

Karaktar (High Chaparral), the winning sire, was bought for €110,000 at the 2016 Summer Sale by Winning Bloodstock. He's now based at Haras de Cercy. His brother Karezak (Azamour) is a Gr1 and 2-placed over hurdles in Britain. Apart from Il Est Français, Karaktar has already been praised for his O’Vent, a Prix Yves d’Armaillé (Gr3 AQPS) winner, or Moka de Vassy, 2nd at Cheltenham in the Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Gr2).

Il Est Français is out of  Millésimée (Vidéo Rock), who failed to win but gave 8 winners for that many runners, including En Bonne Main, a Prix de Craon (Gr1 AQPS) 3rd over the flat.

Millésimée is also the sister to Hard Rock, winner of the Edmond Barrachin Chase 4yo Chase (Gr3) and to Un Jour ou l’Autre (Trempolino) and Sortie de Secours (Trempolino), the latter having twice succeeded in Listed Hurdle races at Auteuil.

Two brothers to Il Est Français were sold at auction. Chef d’Equipe (Presenting) at the 2017 Summer Sale for €130,000 to Guy Petit before being exported to Britain, and A Cor et A Cri (Alberto Giacometti), sold in 2014 for €50,000 to Highflyer Bloodstock.

LASSAUT (c3), FRA by Almanzor ex Lady Family (Sinndar)

Prix de la Broutillerie (Maiden 3-year-old colts and geldings, 1,600m/1M, AWT), March 9, 2022, Chantilly

  • Owners: Riviera Equine S.A.R.L, Haras d’Etreham
  • Trainer: Jean-Claude Rouget
  • Breeders: Riviera Equine S.A.R.L, Haras d’Etreham
  • Rider: Simon Planque

On his December 12th debut at Deauville, when 4th at 4 lengths, Lassaut (Almanzor) had missed the start and lost any chance of winning. Once again, he didn't start very well but not so poorly. He travelled in the rear and his rider elected to come in between horses, which proved to be fruitless so he moved out and was finally able to make a decisive, impressive move, going from last to first in the last furlong, only pushed along to settle for good the duel between Tribalist (Farhh) and Memento Mori (Fast Company), dead-heat for 2nd place. A Listed-3rd at Saint-Cloud in November, Tribalist was coming back this season and is still a maiden!

A day after Point of Fact, Lassaut provides his sire Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) with another Chantilly all-weather victory, the 9th in France and a 4th for Jean-Claude Rouget. The sire's former trainer already did well with his progeny, and the Haras d’Etreham-based stallion is well represented by Le Duc, Campello and Intuiti, while two fillies, Queen Trezy and Saving Grace, are Listed or Group-placed already.

Lassaut is in the Emirates Poule d’Essai (French 2,000 Guineas, Gr1) and the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby, Gr1). he inherited his sire's stamina and his second dam's speed and precocity: Ascot Family (Desert Style) won a Listed in August at 2. Her first foal, Family One (Dubai Destination), won the Prix du Bois (Gr3) at 2 and then the Prix Robert Papin (Gr2) before the great juvenile Dabirsim (Hat Trick) beat him in the Prix Morny (Gr1). Lassaut's dam, Lady Family (Sinndar), is Ascot Family's 4th foal. She was unraced and was sold in foal to Dabirsim at the 2017 Arqana Breeding sales, where Haras d’Etreham bought her for €130,000. The resulting colt, Dilithium, was sold for £1,000 at Tattersalls. His full brother Luanco is racing in Spain. Lassaut is the first foal out of Lady Family to race in France.

YEE HAW (f3), IRE by Frankel ex Bugle (War Front)

Prix de la Croix des Ormeaux (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m, AWT), March 9, 2022, Chantilly

  • Owner: Ecurie Ama.Zingteam
  • Trainer: Francis-Henri Graffard
  • Breeder: Premier Bloodstock
  • Rider: Hugo Journiac

Yee Haw (Frankel) rand her first race at Chantilly in July 2021 over very soft ground, in a lot that was so hot that 3 runners are now black-typed. She never ran again until that day. Trained in Chantilly, she had been able to taste the local all-weather in the morning. With her 8-draw, she started well and her rider was able to take a good position within the field. Yee Haw travelled beautifully, always with cover, and she was given enough time to reach momentum once she got her rivals out of the way. She passed them all after that as Agrigan (Siyouni), who had trailed her, finished 2nd at a good length, with Auctavia First (Recorder) third another length behind.

Yee Haw's US bloodline was imported to Europe with her dam, Bugle (War Front), born, bred and raced Stateside. In 10 starts, when won twice and was placed 2nd on 4 occasions. The second dam, Starlet Storm (Storm Bird), is a sister to a Grade 1 winner, and also the dam of Flanders (Seeking The Gold), a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner.

Bugle (War Front) was bought for $ 400,000 by Barry Berkelhammer at Keeneland as a yearling. A year later, her full brother was sold to John Magnier for $90,000 more. Air Force Blue was his name and at 2, he remained unbeaten, winning the Phoenix Stakes (Gr1), the Vincent O’Brien Stakes (Gr1) and the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr1). He was also named juvenile of the year at the 2015 Cartier Awards. The family is still pretty lively as American Heroine, Bugle and Air Force Blue's 3-year-old sister just won at Gulfstream Park after being paid $1,050,000 by Mike Ryan at Keeneland!

Bugle also has a Galileo juvenile now in training with Aidan O’Brien and entered in the 2023 Epsom Derby …

POURQUOI PAS (f3), IRE by Dark Angel ex Peut Etre (Whipper)

Prix de la Serpentine (Unraced 3-year-old fillies, 1,900m/9.5f, AWT), March 8, 2022, Chantilly

  • Owners: Anne-Marie Hayes & Fabrice Chappet
  • Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
  • Breeder: Knocktoran Stud
  • Rider: Cristian Demuro

Pourquoi Pas (Dark Angel) was already in the race when the stalls burst open. Her rider let her go amongst the leading group to take the trail of the leading filly, Bambita (De Treville), also her stablemate. Pourquoi Pas made her move about two furlongs out and left the rail 100 yards out. If Bambita fought well, she still had to finally give way. Pourquoi Pas won by a head. Sea of Gems (Siyouni) finished third, two lengths behind.

Pourquoi Pas is in the Prix de Diane Longines (French Oaks, Gr1).

Pourquoi Pas (Dark Angel), like her dam Peut Etre (Whipper) before, races for Anne-Marie Hayes. She's the third foal out of that mare, who made most of her career in the Southwest with trainer Philippe Sogorb. She raced at 2 and peaked the following season, finishing 2nd in November of the Prix de Fille de l’Air (Gr3). The 2nd dam Zut Alors (Pivotal) and her own dam Zeiting (Zieten), all being owned by the Hayes family, and all performed well. Trainer Fabrice Chappet got involved in the bloodline through one of the best Zut Alors's foals, Précieuse (Tamayuz), winner of the 2017 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas, Gr1). In 2020, her sister Porcelaine (Kodiac) finished 3rd in a Listed race.

Pourquoi Pas's elder brother, Hypothetical (Lope de Vega), just won the Al Maktoum Challenge (Gr1) at Dubaï, and was bought as a yearling at Tattersalls for £550,000 by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock. He now races for one of Sheikh Mohammed's sons.

POINT OF FACT (c3), GB by Almanzor ex Rip Roaring (Sea The Stars)

Prix de la Traversière (Unraced 3-year-old colts & geldings, 1,900m/9.5f, AWT), March 8, 2022, Chantilly

  • Owner:  Succession Khalid Abdullah
  • Trainer: Henri-François Devin
  • Breeder: Juddmonte Farm
  • Rider: Clément Lecoeuvre

Prix du Jockey Club (Gr1) 4th and Prix Prince d’Orange (Gr3) winner last season, Saiydabad (Blame) won this maiden before. Point of Fact (Almanzor) is the next on top but his connections will need to supplement him in the French classics because he's not been entered yet. He joined the leading group early on and went away two furlongs out  to finally leave his best rival That’s My Power (Almanzor) at 2.5 lengths. Anotherway (Anodin), supplemented here, led the race and stayed on in third.

Trained by André Fabre, the winning dam Rip Roaring (Sea the Stars) began with a win at 2. Hoever, she did not confirm at 3, running twice in the Autumn. She went to stud in 2015. Point of Fact (Almanzor) is her first foal.

Rip Roaring is out of the champion filly Nebraska Tornado (Storm Cat), a dual Gr1-winner, including the Prix de Diane (French Oaks, Gr1).

Her own dam, Media Nox (Lycius), is a Group 3-winner owned by Khalid Abdullah, also dam of Mirabilis (Learn Fan), a Group 1-placed in 2005, and Burning Sun (Danzig), winner of the 2002 Prix Eugène Adam.

Panorama Ridge (Empire Maker), sister to Rip Roaring, also foaled Mallory (Not A Single Doubt), a Group 3-winner and Group 2-placed in Australia, or Cornhusker (Dansili), who ran four times in France and became a good jumper in the States.

GOODWOOD (g5), FRA by Ivawood ex Selkis (Darshaan)

Prix Rohan (4-year-olds and up, Hurdle race, 2m2f), March 6, 2022, Auteuil

  • Owner: Yannick Fouin
  • Trainer: Yannick Fouin
  • Breeders: SCEA des Prairies, Thomas & Benoît Jeffroy
  • Rider: Jérémy da Silva

At the end of a rather messy contest, the front-running Goodwood (Ivawood) managed to keep going to win first time out over jumps, 544 days after his debut over the flat, at 3 in Chateaubriant. Raced by his trainer Yannick Fouin, who bought him as a yearling for €13,000 at Deauville in 2018, where Haras de Castillon, stud operation of the Jeffroy family in Brittany, consigned him.

Second at a good length finished the AQPS Hachasson (Chœur du Nord), another 5-year-old ho jumped awkwardly at times, especially at the last hurdle. Always in the mix too, 4-year-old American Park (Waldpark) was 3rd at 2.5 lengths, 15 lengths ahead of an 8-year-old complete beginner, Eau de Logres (Diamond Boy).

The maiden Selkis (Darshaan), dam of Goodwood, was bred by the Moussac family. She produced 12 foals, including three winners before this one. After Goodwood, she gave a Manatee filly, now 3 and in training with David Cottin.

It is a nice family over the flat since under the third dame is featured the Guineas winner Entrepreneur, while Selkis's dam is a sister to the US graded stakes winner Irish Wings (In the Wings).

SEE YOU BOY (c3), (GB) by Siyouni ex Alamarie (Acclamation)

Prix de Saint-Léonard des Parcs (Maiden 3-year-old colts and geldings, 1,300m/6.5f AWT), March 4, 2022, Deauville

  • Owners: Ecurie Equus Racing, SARL Groupe KR, Val’Horizon, Lydia Pere, Régis Retailleau, Thomas Lines
  • Trainer: Christophe Ferland
  • Breeders: René Woolcott & Lauren Woolcott
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

On January 28, See You Boy (Siyouni) made his debut at Chantilly in a maiden race. He finished 4th, an encouraging result since two of his foes were confirmed later on.

Ridden close to the pace with cover early on, See You Boy made hos move as they went off the bend. He took some time to reach momentum but finally took over the front-running Fantabulous (Olympic Glory) and managed to take over Grecian Dream (Dream Ahead), whose task had been made easier by a better draw (4, instead of 9 for the winner). Fantabulous stayed on in third another neck behind. The beginner Candle Stick (Lope de Vega) finished well in 5th despite a difficult trip.

The winner is in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas, on May 15th at ParisLongchamp).

See You Boy is by Siyouni (Pivotal), the 2021 top French sire, who has already recorded 10 wins this season.

On the dam's side, See You Boy is close to Le Havre (Noverre), whose death was made public on this race's day. Alamarie (Acclamation), the winner's dam, is his sister.

See You Boy's sister was bought for £ 280,000 at Tattersalls as a yearling by White Birch Farm (Peter Brant). She never raced. See You Boy was sold at the Tattersalls breeze-up sale, where Trotting Bloodstock paid £ 50,000. Alamarie has been sold at Arqana in February 2021, in foal to Shalaa, to MAB Agency for € 37,000€. Sinc e then were bor Tourmaline (Kingman), a 2-year old filly in training with Freddy Head, and a yearling colt by Shalaa.

GOODNESS (f3), FRA by Muhaarar ex Sweet Electra (Sea the Stars)

Prix de Gaprée (Maiden 3-year-old Fillies, 1,300m/6.5f AWT), March 4, 2022, Deauville

  • Owner: Jean-Louis Bouchard
  • Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
  • Breeders: Mrs Gilles Forien, Ecurie Gribomont
  • Rider: Cristian Demuro

Goodness (Muhaarar) started her career in the hot Deauville Prix des Marettes in August and came back on a shorter distance at Chantilly, in a race won by the eventual Breederrs'Cup Juvenile Turf 2nd Malavath (Mehmas)... Goodness finally made the frame in October at Parislongchamp.

This was her first trial as a 3-year-old and her all-weather debut. She was kept behind and came by outside in the final straight, beating Splendid (Toronado) by a neck. Almanfata (Almanzor), unraced, finished third, two lengths behind the winning filly.

Sweet Electra (Sea The Stars), the winner's dam, won once in eight outings and Goodness is her first foal. The winner's second dam Ysoldina (Kendor), however, is a great mare already: she's the dam of the Epsom Derby winner Wings of Eagle (Pour Moi), the Sait-Alary (Gr1) winner Belle et Célèbre (Peintre Célèbre), the triple Gr3 winner Valentino (Valanour) and another multiple Group winner, Appel au Maître (Starborough).

Sweet Electra was bought as a yearling for € 600,000 and was sold again as a broodmare prospect in 2017 when sold €180,000 to Jean-Pierre Deroubaix (FBA). She then came back to Aliette Forien's Haras de Montaigu, where she'd been bred. Goodness was born two years later. Bloodstock agent Gérard Larrieu, Jean-Louis Bouchard's advisor, got her for € 95,000 at Arqana.

MONEYMAN (c3), GB by Kingman ex Mizz Money (Mizzen Mast)

Prix du Beauvaisis (Unraced 3-year-old colts & geldings, 1,600m/1M, AWT), March 1st,  2022, Chantilly

  • Owners: Wertheimer & Frère
  • Trainer: André Fabre
  • Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

First outpaced when the leaders accelerated, Moneyman (Kingman) was powerful enough to come back and win by about a length in front of the two early leaders, the unsettled Gurzuf (Zelzal), who almost got rid of his rider when he veered in the last stages, and Utopiste (Almanzor). The trio easily defeated the other runners.

Moneyman is in the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas, Gr1) on May 10th, and in the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby, Gr1).

By Juddmonte famed sire Kingman (Invincible Spirit), Moneyman is out of the grey mare Mizz Money (Mizzen Mast), who won 7 races in the USA, including 2 Group3s.

The dam's full brother, One Mean Man, won a  Gr3 and finished 4th in the Secretariat Stakes (Gr1) at Arlington. The 3rd dame gave many black-type performers, including Tourist (Tiznow), winner of the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2016.

The Wertheimers got Mizz Money in foal to Kingman, that is Moneyman, at the Tattersalls Breeding sales in 2018, where she made £500,000. Her Frankel 2yo is already in training with André Fabre. a 3rd colt,  yearling, is by Dark Angel.

MISSYOUNI (f3), IRE by Siyouni ex Epsom Icon (Sixties Icon)

Prix du Soissonnais (Unraced 3-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1M, AWT), March 1st, 2022, Chantilly

  • Owner: Yeguada Centurion SLU
  • Trainer: Christopher Head
  • Breeder: Yeguada Centurion SLU
  • Rider: Aurélien Lemaître

Missyouni (Siyouni) had already competed in a schooling race before this. Ridden on the frontline outside with no cover, she was able to prevent any mishap, unlike many other runners in this 7-string field ... Indeed when the front-running Street Feel (Street Cry) faded, the fillies behind had a hard time finding a gap. The winner left at one length a tight group with Mea Gloria (Pivotal), a neck ahead of Piz Gloria (Lope de Vega) and the supplemented Licorne (Siyouni) 4th very close.

It's already a 9th win this term for Siyouni, top French sire last season and 4th in Europe, although thanks to the classic winner St Mark’s Basilica.

Yeguada Centurion SLU's colours have already succeeded with Sibila Spain (Frankel). It is managed by Leopoldo Fernández Pujals, an Italian food and Telecom businessman who only recently got involved in horse racing and breeding. He made the news when he bought for $3.2m a band of 16 mares at Keeneland in November 2019.

Missyouni, however, comes from another strait. It's an English family, although it has won in Britain, one in the USA and in Germany. This filly is the first foal out of Epsom Icon (Sixties Icon), a Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Gr3) winner at Epsom in 2016. Her full sister Modern Millie also succeeded at Group level. It is the family of the Ascot juvenile Gr1 winner Red Bloom (Selkirk).

Via Blandford Bloodstock, Epsom Icon was secured at Tattersalls for £250,000 in foal to Siyouni, that is Missyouni. Since then, the mare gave 2 other fillies: a U S Navy Flag 2-year-old filly and a yearling full sister to Missyouni. The U S Navy Flag was sold last year at Arqana to Blandford Bloodstock for € 200,000.
