A selective race and an excellent time of 1'10''26 for Devil (Siyouni) in the Prix Eclipse (Gr3), on Monday, September 16th over the straight 6 furlongs-trip at Maisons-Laffitte. A good winner for his debut, yet clearly beaten in the Darley Prix Morny (Gr1) for his second outing, the Wertheimer & Frère homebred was always going to catch and keep the English raider Nina Balairina (Lope de Vega), who led most of the race. Golden Boy (Siyouni), who went in front this time and could not accelerate, did not flinch either and finished third at seven lengths ... Click here to read the video...
Devil is the first foal out of Burma Sea (Lope de Vega), a mare bred by Gestüt Ammerland and bought privately for € 350,000 at the Arqana sales in 2015.
She had finished second in the Prix Finlande (L) after winning once, but her dam Bougainvillea (Acatenango) was a sister to the champion mare Borgia. After Devil, Burma Sea gave an Invincible Spirit filly and a Camelot colt.
The Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr3) went to Villa Rosa (Doctor Dino), one of only two females in the field. There were only five starters overt the 10 furlongs-straight course, and the Devin family representative succeeded there her stablemate Golden Legend. Ridden by Mickaël Barzalona, the 4-year-old filly led at a moderate pace, but she gradually accelerated afterwards to repel the attack of Intellogent (Intello), second at ¾, beating the favourite Trais Fluors (Dansili), who couldn't keep up with the first two in the end. Villa Rosa had just finished fourth in the Lucien Barrière Grand Prix de Deauville (Gr2) over an extended 1m4f, showing a lot of stamina, which allowed her to win this by moving early, by French standards anyway.
The filly was bred by Antonia Devin out of Villa Joyeuse (Kahyasi), who mostly ran over jumps, winning eight consecutive races over hurdles and fences between December 2005 and September 2006, in the Provinces first and then at Auteuil. She finished her career with a third place at Enghien in a Listed Hurdle race. Her last two foals are Doctor Dino colts. She also gave the 7-year-old Zemindari (Zanzibari), winner of 7 races and more than €160,000 in earnings and premiums.
