KENNELLA (f2), FRA by Kendargent ex Ella Diva (Heliostatic)

€22,000 Prix de Varanville (Maiden 2-year-olds, 1,200m/6f), October 22, Deauville

Owner: Derek Ronald Lodge (€11,000 in prizemoney + €5,940 provision on Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: Nicolas Caullery

Breeder: GAEC Campos (€2,202 in Breeders' Premiums - French sire)

Rider: Christophe Soumillon

Held back early and gradually brought along in the final two furlongs, the favourite Kennella (Kendargent) easily outscored the front-running Entei (Motivator), beaten by more than one length. Owned by Derek Lodge, she was contesting her seventh race and had finished second in her three previous attempts, also run over 6 furlongs. The owner-breeder had bought his dam, Ella Diva (Heliostatic), for more than € 43,000 after her second win in a Clairefontaine claimer. She went on to win her fourth straight race and still undefeated then, the Prix des Jouvenceaux et des Jouvencelles (L). She failed to move up in class though. At stud, Kennella is her first offspring, followed by a filly by Shalaa born in 2019.

INTIME DREAM (f2), FRA by Dariyan ex Lettre Intime (Invincible Spirit)

€22,000 Prix d’Hotot-en-Auge (Unraced 2-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), October 22, Deauville

Owner: Domaine de la Cornillière (€11,000 in prizemoney + €5,940 provision on Owners' Premiums + €2,202 in Breeders' Premiums - French sire)

Trainer: Edouard Monfort

Breeder: Domaine de la Cornillière

Rider: Sébastien Martino

Always well placed behind the leaders, Intime Dream (Dariyan) made the difference one furlong out and stayed out of reach of the good finisher and favourite Vrigny (Le Havre), who took the second place at two lengths. Note that the fifth-placed Sareina (Rajsaman) had missed her start and took a long time to come back into contention, then gained many places in the turn, along the rail.

Intime Dream was entered as early as in July but her connections had to wait.

Her dam Lettre Intime (Invincible Spirit) is out of a sister to Diamond Mix (Linamix) and numerous performers at Group level. A maiden herself, after 22 races, she gave birth to a full sister to Intime Dream in 2020. Another sister by Rajsaman was sold for € 6,000 at the Deauville sales in 2017.

MILLEBOSC (c2), FRA by Le Havre ex Mixed Intention (Elusive City)

€22,000 Prix de Saint-Désir (Unraced 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,600m/1m), October 22, Deauville

Owner: Gérard Augustin-Normand (€11,000 in prizemoney + €5,940 provision on Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: Stéphane Nigge

Breeder: Franklin Finance (€2,202 in Breeders' Premiums - French sire)

Rider: Théo Bachelot

Pointed in fourth position on the side of the pack on a heavy turf, Millebosc (Le Havre) finally dominated Mond (Sea the Moon) with a fight - and by only a nose. The latter had travelled well behind the front-running Gogopro (Sea the Moon), finally fifth. The third-placed San Cristobal (Le Havre), finished well at a neck, and the fourth-placed Juan Seguin (Invincible Spirit) did well, too.

Millebosc's dam, Mixed Intention (Elusive City), was bought at the Arqana 2-year-old sales for € 50,000. A Listed winner at Cagnes for Jan Romel in February at 3, she finished second in the Prix de Lieurey (Gr3) the following summer for Gérard Augustin-Normand before winning again at Listed level for her last appearance. Millebosc is her fifth foal. She also gave Roncey (Pivotal), winner of 11 races out of 22 outings with Jean-Claude Rouget then Édouard Monfort. Two full sisters to Millebosc were born after him.

HURRICK DES OBEAUX (g3), FRA by Saddex ex Quick des Obeaux (April Night)

€40,000 Prix RMC Emilius (3-year-old colts & geldings unraced over obstacles, Hurdle race, 3,600m/2m2f), October 18, Auteuil

Owner: Mrs Nicolas Devilder (€19,200 in prizemoney + €2,784 in 14.5% breeders' Premiums)

Trainer: Nicolas Devilder

Breeders: Mme Nicolas Devilder & Benjamin Devilder

Rider: Olivier Jouin

Fifth in the Critérium du Centre (Gr3-AQPS) this summer at Vichy, without having yet won, then second in September at Fontainebleau, the AQPS Hurrick des Obeaux (Saddex) opened his record for his jumps debut. Nicolas Devilder’s homebred led the entire race this time and was never in danger, although the second-placed Kerlaz (Estejo) looked like a challenger at some point, but just briefly. He finally had to settle for second place three lengths behind a very convincing winner.

He is the third foal and the second winner out of Quick des Obeaux (April Night), winner of two chases in 17 outings, including 12 over jumps, for the same connections. She had no foal between 2012 and 2017 and disappeared in April 2018.

TEAHUPPO (g3), FRA by Masked Marvel ex Droit d’Aimer (Sassanian)

€40,000 Prix Emilius (3-year-old colts & geldings unraced over obstacles, Hurdle race, 3,600m/2m2f), October 18, Auteuil

Owners: Philip Prevost Baratte & Haras du Hoguenet (€19,200 in prizemoney + €2,784 in 14.5% breeders' Premiums)

Trainer: Gabriel Leenders

Breeders: Philip Prevost Baratte & Haras du Hoguenet

Rider: Geoffrey Ré

One of eight complete rookies in this twelve-starter race, Teahupoo (Masked Marvel) travelled by the field until mi-race. Then he joined the leading Good Ball (Doctor Dino) in the Auteuil turn and went with him to the outside going into the last straight, while the AQPS Haut les Cœurs (Saddler Maker) was making some progress in the centre. Finally, the stands' rail was the winning one as Teahupoo won by more than one length over Good Ball, Haut les Cœurs finishing third at three lengths, beating the 4th-placed Hano de Loi (Jeu Saint-Éloi ), although he finished well some five lengths down the field.

The winner's dam, Droit d'Aimer (Sassanian), was very consistent as a racemare for trainer Nicolas Bertran de Balanda, having won four times and just as many second or third places in twelve outings.

She had less success at stud since she gave only one winner, Droit de Rêver (Enrique), who won two chases at Montluçon-Néris and Châtillon, before this Teahupoo ... Two foals were born after him: a Masked Marvel filly in 2018 and another by Montmartre in 2019, both also bred by Philip Prevost Baratte and Haras du Hoguenet.

RAIKU (c2), FRA by Showcasing ex Schlague (Pulpit)

€22,000 Prix de la Brêche aux Loups (2-year-old maiden colts & geldings, 1,300m/6.5f), October 15, ParisLongchamp

Owner: Écurie Jean-Louis Bouchard (€11,000 in prizemoney + €5,940 provision on Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: Freddy Head

Breeder: Gestüt Zur Kuste AG (€1,439 in breeders' Premiums, non-French sire)

Rider: Aurélien Lemaître

Twice beaten in July over 7 furlongs, Raiku (Showcasing) took the lead for his comeback three months later, and he bravely held on, although winning by a head only over Favaritx (Shalaa), who finished second in the third time in a row.

Raiku was bought for € 100,000 at the Deauville sales, where his Almanzor brother was recently sold for € 110,000. Their dam Schlague (Pulpit) also gave Dice Roll (Showcasing), winner of the Arqana October Sale Criterium and the Prix Djebel (Gr3) before being exported to Hong Kong. It is also the family of Corre Caminos (Montjeu) and Racinger (Spectrum).

FRENCHETTE (F2), FRA by The Gurkha ex Miryale (Anabaa)

€22,000 Prix de la Faisanderie (2-year-old maiden fillies, 1,300m/6.5f), October 15, ParisLongchamp

Owner: Écurie Philippe Ségalot (€11,000 in prizemoney + €5,940 provision on Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: Jean-Claude Rouget

Breeders: Erwan & Mickaël Robin (€1,439 in breeders' Premiums, non-French sire)

Rider: Coralie Pacaut

An excellent third for her debut at Clairefontaine over 7 furlongs, Frenchette (The Gurkha) took advantage of this experience to stay more focused here, as the margin with the second-placed Signature Song (Speightstown) was reduced to a short neck. The winner indeed seemed to have the measure of her rival, who initially had the upper hand over the third-placed Ameera (Tamayuz), the first to attack in the home stretch.

Frenchette was paid € 75,000 by Jean-Claude Rouget at the Deauville sales. On the other hand, her older sister by Most Improved did not find a buyer last December at € 24,000. Both come from Miryale (Anabaa), a Guy de Rothschild homebred who also gave birth to Afandem (Zoffany), second in the Prix Eugène Adam (Gr2) and third in the Arlington Million (Gr1).

RUMI (f2), FRA by Frankel ex Secrète (Cape Cross)

€22,000 Prix de la Chapelle (Unraced 2-year-old fillies, 1,800m/9f), October 15, ParisLongchamp

Owner: Al Shiraa Farms (€11,000 in prizemoney + €5,940 provision on Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias

Breeder: Écurie des Monceaux (€1,439 in breeders' Premiums, non-French sire)

Rider: Olivier Peslier

Long-held back, Rumi (Frankel) came freewheeling in the last furlong to gain the upper hand over the brave leader Ramad (Awtaad), beaten by one length, two lengths in front of the rest of the field.

The winner was bought for € 700,000 at the Deauville sales. She's a sister to Solage (Galileo), a Listed winner late last year at 3 in Ireland after costing a million euros. The brother by Galileo was withdrawn at the sales last September.

They all come out of Secrete (Cape Cross), who has run only once and lost, but is a sister to Plumania and Balladeuse, hence Plumatic, Starmaniac, Left Hand, etc.

BLIND BUY (c2), IRE by War Command ex Bedazzled (Authorized)

€22,000 Prix de Belleville (Unraced 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,800m/9f), October 15, ParisLongchamp

Owner: Bernd Dietel (€11,000 in prizemoney, Irishbred - no Premium)

Trainer: Andreas Schütz

Breeder: Stall im Morgenpark (Irishbred - no Premium)

Rider: Pierre-Charles Boudot

Starting with a jump left, Blind Buy (War Command) was held behind early as Saranac (Gleneagles), the most favoured of the three Wertheimers in this race, was taking the lead. He was able to switch left going into the homestretch and gradually grab ground to catch the front runner. He finally got the upper hand in the last hundred yards to win by a short head. At 3.5 lengths, Zileo (Galileo), who had been hampered by the winner at the start, runs well.

The winner was bought for € 14,000 at the Baden-Baden sales. His dam Bedazzled (Authorized) fetched £ 28,000 at the Tattersalls Breeding sale after winning a race and given her first foal.

SÉBILLE (f3), GB by Kingston Hill ex Inchiri (Sadler’s Wells)

€20,000 Prix Diatome (Maiden 3-year-olds, 3,000m/1m7f), October 14, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Prime Equestrian (€10,000 prizemoney, UK-bred, no Premium)

Trainer: Christophe Ferland

Breeder: Ecurie Woodcote Stud (UK-bred, no Premium)

Rider: Christophe Soumillon

It was the sixth attempt of Sebille (Kingston Hill), who had so far never finished further than third over 1m4f to 1m7f. Ridden for the first time by Christophe Soumillon, she travelled by the field - she'd been drawn 11 - until the last bend, as her rider then asked her to move first against the outside rail. She was pushed along all the way but finally made a difference to finish on the bit with three lengths to spare over Auditoria (Gleneagles) and Keep Away (Dabirsim), who fought for a long time for second place. Those two ended up separated only by a short neckline.

Sebille was bought for £ 60,000 at the Newmarket sales. Her dam Inchiri (Sadler’s Wells) won a Listed race in England at 3 and already gave Hawk’s Eye (Hawk Wing), a Group winner in South Africa.

WINTER REPRISE (g3), FRA by Intello ex Winter Fashion (Kendor)

€20,000 Prix de la Salle du Sycomore (Maiden 3-year-olds, 2,000m/1m2f), October 13, Chantilly

Owner: Clive Andrew Washbourn (€10,000 in prizemoney + €5,400 provision on Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: David Menuisier

Breeder: Nicolas Clément (€3,003 in 50% boosted breeders' Premiums: Recent French sire, Black type dam, aged less than 12yo)

Rider: Pierre-Charles Boudot

Bought for € 290,000 at the Deauville sales, Winter Reprise (Intello) is trained in England and ran there twice without success before taking a second place over 9f at Clairefontaine. Gelded after that, last August, he came back to France to take the lead in this handicap-looking maiden with 17 runners, and quickly took over Singel Malt (Makfi), who finally lost the second place, as Bouvardia (Motivator) finished better 2.5 lengths down.

Winter Reprise is the fourth foal out of Winter Fashion (Kendor), a winner of the Prix Amandine (L) over 7f who also gave Flower Fashion (Flower Alley), a Listed-placed sold in foal to No Nay Never at the next breeding sales at Tattersalls.

A sister by Camelot was born in 2019 for Nicolas Clément.

SUESA (f2), IRE by Night of Thunder ex Sally is the Boss (Orpen)

€22,000 Prix des Terroirs de France (Unraced 2-year-olds, 1,200m/6f), October 13, Chantilly

Owner: Georgiana Cabrero (€11,000 prizemoney, Irishbred, no Premium)

Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias

Breeder: Thomastown Farm Ltd (Irishbred, no Premium)

Rider: Adrien Moreau

It was almost a pillar to post domination by Suesa (Night of Thunder) for her debut as she dominated the other leading horse, Petit Calvados (Equiano), and then narrowly stood out of reach of a fast-finishing Wendy Rhoades (Style Vendôme), second at half a length.

Suesa was bought for € 17,000 only at Goffs sales in Ireland. Her dam is unraced but her first foal, Valle Inclan (Elusive Pimprenel), won his first three races, two in San Sebastian, and then a Saint-Cloud claimer for Ana Imaz-Ceca.

HOULE SECRÈTE (f3), FRA by Rail Link ex Vague Secrète (Secret Singer)

€52,000 Prix Beaurepaire (3-year-old fillies unraced over obstacles, Hurdle race, 3 600m/2m2f), October 11, Auteuil

Owners: Michèle Juhen-Cyprès & Gabriel Leenders (€24,960 in prizemoney)

Trainer: Gabriel Leenders

Breeders: Michèle Juhen-Cyprès, Laurent, Bertrand et Thibaut Juhen (€3,619 in 14.5% Breeders' Premiums)

Rider: Clément Lefebvre

Although she'd never run before this, the AQPS Houle Secrète (Rail Link) was held in the rear until the end of the backstretch, then went by the small field to join the leaders and dominate effortlessly to win by eight lengths over Hashcup Collonges (Saddler Maker). The third-placed Hirondel Bouloise (Nom de D'Là) also being an AQPS, the leading trio is halfbred. The winner's only challenger at the last hurdle, the front-runner Picadilly Lilly (Authorized).

Houle Secrète's dam, Vague Secrète (Secret Singer) ran but never won. Also bred by Michel Juhen-Cyprès, her second dam is a sister to the Auteuil great Ucello II.

After Houle Secrète, the mare gave birth to a Karaktar filly and another one by Spanish Moon. According to the AQPS digital book of mares, Vague Secrète was covered in 2020 by Tunis.

PETTINGER (f2), GB by Hot Streak ex Joshua’s Princess (Danehill)

€20,000 Prix Ad Altiora (Maiden 3-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), October 8, Saint-Cloud

Owner: Thomas Bownes (€10,000 prizemoney, UK-bred, no Premium)

Trainer: Anne-Sophie Crombez

Breeder: Widgham Stud (UK-bred, no Premium)

Rider: Léa Bails

Still a maiden after nine races from July 2019 to September 2020, including eight across the Channel, Pettinger (Hot Streak) had just failed on her French debut at Compiègne. She wasn't surprised a second time around, her partner Lea Bails keeping a length to the end over Jamilya (Kingman), who seemed to swoop down on her a hundred yards from the post.

Pettinger has changed owners twice already as she was sold as a weanling for £15,000, then as a yearling for £18,000, before being sold for £10,000 at the end of the year at 2. Her brother by Nathaniel made just £16,000 at the latest Newmarket sales. It doesn't sound expensive when you consider that they are brothers and sisters of the good Mutamakina (Nathaniel), winner of the Vichy Oaks, the Prix Mrs Jean Couturié (L), and placed in the Prix de la Nonette (Gr2) at Deauville. Not to mention that their 3rd dam is the great miler Ridgewood Pearl!

CHOP VAL (c3), FRA by Amarillo ex Enough Paint (New Approach)

€20,000 Prix Topyo (3-year-old maiden colts & geldings, 1,600m/1m), October 8, Saint-Cloud

Owners: Écurie Martial & Thierry Lemer (€10,000 in prizemoney + €5,400 provision on 60% Owners' Premiums)

Trainer: Thierry Lemer

Breeders: Alain Chopard & Christian Vallée (€2,002 in Breeders'Premiums)

Rider: Pierre-Charles Boudot

It was for his eleventh attempt that Chop Val (Amarillo) finally opened his record. Yet, his consistency until then was commanding, since he never finished further than 4th before this first victory and had pocketed nearly €40,000 already. fast in the lead with his 1 draw, the Thierry Lemer-trained colt was very much in control all the way. He finished 1.5 lengths ahead of the second-placed Telemaque (War Front), a colt that cost $650,000.

For his part, Chop Val comes from a winner at 2 in Deauville, Enough Paint (New Approach), traded several times before being acquired, in foal to this colt, for € 12,000 at the Deauville sales by Alain Chopard, co-breeder of Chop Val. The mare's third dam is the excellent sprinter Parioli (Bold Bidder), second in the 1986 Abbaye de Longchamp, third a year earlier in the French sprint championship, at 4.

Enough Paint also gave a 2-year-old by Captain Chop who ran twice without success so far, then a colt by Kheleyf and another born this year by Born To Sea.

HAUT EN COULEURS (g3), FRA by Saint des Saints ex Sanouva (Muhtathir)

Prix Pride of Kildare (3-year-olds unraced over obstacles, Hurdle race, 3 600m/2m2f), October 1st, Auteuil

Owners: Haras de Saint Voir & Écurie Patrick Joubert (€19,200 in prizemoney + €2,784 in 14.5% breeders' Premiums)

Trainer: Gabriel Leenders

Breeders: Haras de Saint Voir & EARL Patrick Joubert

Rider: Alain de Chitray

Two outstanding beginners ruled the finish of this Pride of Kildare 3yo Beginners' Hurdle race, won by Haut en Couleurs (Saint des Saints) at the expense of Swiss Guard (Martaline), fifteen lengths ahead of the third-placed.

Bred by Haras de Saint-Voir (Nicolas de Lageneste) and by Patrick Joubert, the winner is the third foal out of Sanouva (Muhtathir), winner of the Wild Monarch 3yo Beginners' Hurdle race and the Congress 3yo Chase (Gr2), a sister to the champion hurdler Hippomène (Dream Well), also the dam of Gentilhomme (Poliglote), winner of an Auteuil chase for the same connections. The latter was bought back for € 246,000 at the Arqana Summer sales.

After Haut en Couleurs, Sanouva gave birth to a colt by Martaline who is now 2.
