Boulogne-Billancourt, Tuesday 23 January 2018 – The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was honoured with the 2017 Longines World’s Best Horse Race award at a sumptuous ceremony in London on Tuesday, 23 January. The inaugural winner of this award in 2015, the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe has won this prestigious award for the second time.

The Longines World’s Best Horse Race award recognises the best-rated race of the highest- rated Group 1 International races, as established for the year by a panel of international handicappers, from a selection of 405 international Group 1 races that are run each year around the world.

The ratings of the top four finishers serve as a basis for the assessment. This global rating is based on the IFHA (International Federation of Horseracing Authorities) classification.

Edouard de Rothschild, the President of France Galop, declared: “The Arc has long been a barometer for the best horses in the world. Winning the Longines World’s Best Horse Race award for the second time in three years highlights the level of excellence we are trying to achieve with our premier race. Enable won the hearts of many with her victory at Chantilly, and hopefully she will line up at the new ParisLongchamp this autumn to defend her title.”

For Nasser Sherida Al Kaabi, General Manager of QREC, “It is immensely satisfying to see the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe honoured as the 2017 Longines World’s Best Horse Race, especially as it was also celebrated as the inaugural winner in 2015. Our partnerships with France Galop and Longines are valuable to us. This recognition validates our efforts to be associated with the best the world of horse racing has to offer, especially as equestrian sport has long been a passion and a point of pride for Qataris.”
