Quincey Barrière : 8 and counting for Skalleti

Skalleti (Kendargent) once again produced a perfect copy for his first test in a Gr3 race on Sunday at Deauville in the Prix Quincey Barrière (Gr3) mile race. His 8th victory, for a total of 9 races, didn't seem to be the most troublesome as the Jerome Reynier-trained 4yo gelding controlled his only real challenger Stunning Spirit (Invincible Spirit) in the last furlong after waiting in the rear. They went into the matter pretty early for a French race. As a result, the field finished the race extended with Stunning Spirit beaten a length, two other lengths ahead of the 3rd-placed Lilly Kafeine (Myboycharlie), who missed the start and won last time out as a handicap top-weight. Godolphin's Crown Walk (Dubawi) faded in 4th.

Bred by Guy Pariente, sold €85,000 at Deauville to owner Jean-Claude Seroul's agent Alain Decrion, Skalleti seems to reach his best level only now. His dam Skallet (Muhaymin) won a Listed in Bordeaux. She also gave Skalleto (Kendargent), a Listed-placed for Guy Pariente. Also a gelding, a Kendargent 3-year-old won four races in Provence, and another Kendargent colt was foaled earlier this season.
