Nine 3-year-old fillies have been confirmed on Wednesday at Chantilly in the prix de Royaumont (Gr3), run over 1m1/2, as if it was the local Oaks, also usually run in early June.

Among the last five winners of this race, an old Chantilly classic, four had run in the prix de la Seine (L), typically run over 11 furlongs at ParisLongchamp. Two had won that day too, two were beaten by fillies who were probably aimed at the prix de Diane (Gr1).

This time, it is American Apples (American Post)'s turn to be true to this form after her promising 2nd place on May 14, almost 3 lengths ahead of the 4th-placed Annalyse (Olympic Glory), whom she finds again here… They also boast the best ratings in the race at 98lbs!

  • 1. EBAIYRA (f3, FRA by Distorted Humor ex Ebiyza, by Rock of Gibraltar) Rating : -

This homebred filly was 2nd for her debut in September behind a filly who'd already run twice, easily defeating Anobar, who's still a maiden but was Listed-placed afterwards. For her return, Ebaiyra finished 2nd to Solsticia, who did not run again but is very highly-regarded.

Ebaiyra's dam won the Qatar prix de Royallieu (Gr2) and foaled Edisa (Kitten’s Joy), a prix du Conseil de Paris (Gr2) second.

She's in the Coolmore prix Saint-Alary (Gr1) and the prix de Diane Longines (Gr1).

  • 2. VARVARA (f3, FRA by Hallowed Crown ex Simply the Best, by Jet Master) Rating: 76lbs

This homebred ran 4 times without a win including three this season. Last time out at Lyon-Parilly in a race won by Sassandra, whom she will be facing again here, she finished well after running in the rear and was about one length and a half behind her on the wire.

Her dam was imported from South Africa unraced and has been exported to Russia. It traces back to an Aga Khan family as the 4th dam is a winner at 2 and a Group-placed too in France as a juvenile.

She's in the prix de Diane Longines (Gr1).

  • 3. HAKELA DU SEUIL (f3, FRA by Poliglote ex Sweet Laly, by Marchand de Sable) Rating: -

She's just won for her debut at Strasbourg over 10.5 furlongs against colts who had already had a run. She's a sister to the Cheltenham festival Gr1 winning chaser Taquin du Seuil (Voix du Nord).

  • 4. FÉE HISTORIQUE (f3, FRA by Lucayan ex Xachusa, by Xaar) Rating: 89lbs

Bought for € 5,500 at the Deauville sales, she's the most seasoned in the lot as it will be her 9th race to date, and all without a win. She looked outpaced over 9 furlongs last time out in the prix Vanteaux (Gr3), finishing well in 5th.

She's in the prix de Diane Longines (Gr1).

  • 5. SASSANDRA (f3, GB by Lope de Vega ex Motivation, by Muhtathir) Rating: 83lbs

This sister to Rockemperor (Holy Roman Emperor), a prix La Force (Gr3) second and Belmont Park Gr1 third last season, was bought for €110,000 at Deauville. She ran four times and three without a win the Southwest before she finally found her race at Lyon-Parilly over 11 furlongs beating two fillies who came 1st and 2nd in another race since then.

  • 6. ANNALYSE (f3, FRA by Olympic Glory ex Lily of the Lake, by Dylan Thomas) Rating: 98lbs

Bought for €45,000 in Deauville, she won first time out at 2 over Lyon-La Soie's all-weather. Third again on sand at Deauville after that, she, however, finished 4th in the prix Rose de Mai (L) in March, on all-weather, only a short neck behind a potential favourite here, American Apples, who has beaten her since in the prix de la Seine (L). She seemed a bit outpaced that day and should relish the longer distance.

She's in the Coolmore prix Saint-Alary (Gr1).

  • 7. MOZZARELLA (f3, FRA by Power ex Melting Ice, by Verglas) Rating: 87lbs

She was fourth in the prix Caravelle – Haras de Granges (L) at Toulouse, beaten a head by Neige Blanche, who won the prix Cléopâtre (Gr3) at Lyon after that. Beforehand, Mozzarella had won two consecutive handicaps, her rating taking a 14lbs hike in the process, all that after being twice claimed for €22,888 and then €28,888! She was also entered in the Derby du Languedoc this Friday.

  • 8. AMERICAN APPLES (f3, FRA by American Post ex Apple Kimbi, by Beauchamp King) Rating: 98lbs

Bought for €16,000 in February as a yearling in Deauville, she won her maiden over an extended 10.5 furlongs-trip at hiver à Cagnes-sur-Mer for her 2nd start, by 3 lengths, was then moved to her new trainer's yard and started for her new connections with a 3rd place in the prix Rose de Mai (L), just beating Annalyse over 9.5 furlongs on all-weather, and finally took an encouraging 2nd place in the prix de la Seine (L) at ParisLongchamp.

She was also entered in the prix Cléopâtre (Gr3) on Saturday over 11 furlongs at Lyon.

  • 9. CONTROL TOWER (f3, FRA by Youmzain ex La Tour Rouge, by Monsun) Rating: -

This homebred started with a win in November in a deep ground at Fontainebleau, taking the lead early to just hold over 9 furlongs. Her rival was twice soundly beaten after that.

She's in the prix de Diane Longines (Gr1).
