SAINT LANGIS (g3), FRA by Sidestep ex Super Lina (Linamix)

Prix Pride of Kildare (3-year-olds unraced over jumps, 3,600m/18f, Hurdle race), September 30, Auteuil

  • Owners: Anthony Gabryszewski, Brigitte Re-Scandella, Dominique Souchon
  • Trainer: Brigitte Ré-Scandella
  • Breeder: Jean-Pierre Dubois
  • Rider: Morgan Regairaz

Saint Langis (Sidestep) went from last 5 furlongs out to first on the wire, beating the front-runner Si Elegant (Gemix) by a good length.

Saint Langis had first run over the flat. He also had been moved to Brigitte Scandella-Ré's yard following his sale in between these two first attempts, showing some stamina when second at Marseille-Borély over 1m5f last time out.

Saint Langis is by the Australian sire Sidestep (Exceed and Excel), who has been based at Julian Ince's Haras du Logis three seasons and also sired Thélème, winner of the Cambacérès 3-year-olds' Hurdle race (Gr1) in 2020.

On the dam's side, Super Lina (Linamix) is a Pénélope (Gr3)-placed and finished near the three first home in the Saint-Alary (Gr1) in 2004. At stud, she already gave Art Contemporain (Smart Strike), 2nd in the Noailles (Gr2), and Super Alex (Alex The Winner), who's black-typed over jumps and won again recently at Auteuil

Super Lina also foaled Super Pie (Pivotal), dam of the classic-winner Olmedo (Declaration of War), while her own dam, Supergirl (Woodman), gave Super Célèbre (Peintre Célèbre).

If Art Contemporain had been well sought at the 2011 yearlings sale, being bought for €160,000€ by Jean-Louis Bouchard, Saint Langis went twice on the ring and never made so much money: Sylvain Vidal paid €55,000 at the 2019 yearling sale and he was sold again two years later at the Summer Sale to Brigitte Ré-Scandella for €11,000.

MQSE DE SEVIGNE (f2), (IRE) by Siyouni ex Penne (Sèvres Rose)

Prix de la Forterelle (Maiden 2-year-old Fillies, 1,400m/7f), September 29, 2021, Chantilly

  • Owner: Edouard de Rothschild

  • Trainer: André Fabre

  • Breeder: SC Ecurie de Meautry

  • Rider: Mickäel Barzalona

Third to her stablemate Agave (Dubawi) for her Longchamp debut in the coveted Prix de la Cascade, Mqse de Sévigné (Siyouni) was shortened to 7 furlongs this time and this, plus her first experience, proved to be decisive for her second outing.

Mqse de Sévigné was ridden by the pack led by Lune de Rio (Rio de la Plata), finally third. These two imposing fillies were ridden early on and soon made a difference, although  Aquabella (Iffraaj) finished fast to take second place, half a length behind the winner.

Mqse de Sévigné originates from a Rothschild family, bought in the 70's from the Dupré bloodstock through Cleophis, Mqse de Sévigné's 3rd dam. The family was outlined by  Penne (Sèvres Rose), the dam of Méandre (Slickly), a winner of 4 Gr1s including the 2011 Grand Prix de Paris. Eight of the nine Penne foals ran at least once; Mqse de Sévigné is her sixth winner.

Siyouni (Pivotal)'s offspring should soon reach 400 winners with over 50 black-type winners including Sottsass, Ervedya or Laurens.

INVESTISSEUR  (c2), FRA by Al Wukair ex Felcine (Duke of Marmelade)

Prix de la Mariguette (Maiden 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,400m/7f), September 29, 2021, Chantilly

  • Owner: Jean-Claude Seroul

  • Trainer: Jérôme Reyniner

  • Breeder: Elevage Haras de Bourgeauville

  • Rider: Christophe Soumillon

For his first Parisian race, Investisseur (Al Wukair) was slightly shortened from the mile. He ran over that trip at Vichy and then Marseille-Borély, finishing second last time out. For his first attempt on a right-handed course, he started quickly and was able to take an easy lead. One furlong out, Investisseur had already left his best pursuers at two lengths and finally kept just a short head over a fast-finishing Lion’s Mane (Shamardal).

If the winning owner Jean-Claude Seroul often breeds his horses, Investisseur was bred by Haras de Bourgeauville, managed by the Finnish owner Philip Lybeck since 2004. The stud farm consigned Investisseur at the 2019 Arqana sale. Seroul's agent Alain Decrion bought him as a weanling for € 70,000. The colt's dam Felcine (Duke of Marmelade) was trained by Alessandro Botti, and was placed at Gr3-level in Italy over the mile.

ONESTO (c2), IRE by Frankel ex Onshore (Sea the Stars)

Prix de Villebon (Unraced 2-year-old colts & geldings, 1,600m/1m), September 24, Chantilly

  • Owners: Jean-Pierre-Joseph & Jean-Etienne Dubois, Écurie Hunter Valley, Haras d’Étreham, Écurie Billon, Écurie Elag, Fabrice Chappet & Hubert Guy
  • Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
  • Breeder: Diamond Creek Farm LLC
  • Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Held in last of this 10 unraced colts field, Onesto (Frankel) flew past the other beginners from 2 out, taking only 11’’06 to reach the furlong pole, that is at least 5/10th quicker than any other runner here! The second-placed Badge (Galileo), who had been ridden closer to the pace, looked like he was finishing better but according to the sectional timing, he took a tenth of a second more than the winner to reach the post in this final 200 yards. It was definitely an eye-catching debut. The last 3 furlongs were covered by Onesto in 34’’62, roughly the same as Gran Havana, equally impressive in the fillies' race. They were carrying 2lbs less than the colts and took 1''3 more than the colts to travel the mile.

If the Juddmonte homebred Badge, second at 2.5 lengths, is out of a Frankel's sister, Onesto was sold as a yearling for £ 185,000 at Tattersalls, and again at the Ocala breeze-up sale for $ 535,000 to bloodstock agent Hubert Guynow his co-owner. It is another Juddmonte family since Onesto is by Frankel, Badge's uncle and his 3rd dam is no other than Kerali (High Line), dam of Hasili, who foaled Dansili and Banks Hill, and 2nd dam of the famed Brazilian sire Leroidesanimaux. However, Onesto's first and second dam never ran.

Onesto's Australia yearling sister is in the Sportsman Sale next week at Goffs in Ireland.

GRAN SABANA (f2), IRE by Kingman ex Cascading (Teofilo)

Prix de Toutevoie (Unraced 2-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 24, Chantilly.

  • Owners: Écurie des Charmes & Ballylinch Stud
  • Trainer: Pia et Joakim Brandt
  • Breeders: Écurie des Charmes & Ballylinch Stud
  • Rider: Cristian Demuro

Still last entering the final straight, behind a field of 16 other unraced fillies, Gran Sabana (Kingman) outclassed the whole pack in the final furlong to win by a length over Andromède (Sea the Stars), always spotted close to the pace until then.

The winner was withdrawn at Goffs as a yearling, but her Roaring Lion brother, unsold there as a foal, is consigned in the Irish sale by his co-breeder Ballylinch Stud with Écurie des Charmes. Their dam Cascading (Teofilo) is a sister to Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1) winner National Defense (Invincible Spirit). She won in Britain and was a Listed-placed there over 1m4f, then in France, where she failed to win again. It is a very lively family as Gran Sabana's 3rd dam is also the 2nd dam of the British champion colt Adayar (Frankel).

FEEL YOUR POWER (c2), FRA by Captain Marvelous ex Flame of Fame (Shakespearean)

Prix Fast Fox (Unraced 2-year-olds, 1,300m/6.5f), September 22, Saint-Cloud

  • Owner: Georg Kern

  • Trainer: Henri Alex Pantall

  • Breeder: Georg Kern

  • Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

Feel Your Power (Captain Marvelous) led the whole way and took off early in the straight to keep Chacha Touille (Dream Ahead) at a good length, Visreyma (Kingman) finishing 3rd at 1.5 lengths.

Georg Kern, breeder and owner of Feel your Power, was also the breeder and owner of his dam Flame of Fame (Shakespearean), who won first time out at Compiègne. Feel Power is her first foal. There's a yearling full brother named Furioso. Flame of Fame's best siblings are also by Captain Marvelous (Invincible Spirit): Flaming Star, a Listed-placed, and Forza Capitano, a Listed-winner, also Group3-placed, both racing for Georg Kern and being trained by Alex Pantall.

Captain Marvelous was based at Haras de Saint-Arnoult until 2020. He was then moved to Baugé, in the West, for Anjou Loire Racing Stud. This Critérium de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr3) winner sired 73 foals who won 38 races and were placed 161 times, for a total of  432 runs, sporting a healthy 46% strike rate in the top 5.

LOUBEISIEN (c2), FRA by Kheylef ex Lolif (Loup Breton)

Prix Dagor (Maiden 2-year-olds, 1,600m/1m), September 22, Saint-Cloud

  • Owners: Le Haras Des Sens, Ecurie Maxime Moczulski, Ecurie Mill Reef Sas, Christophe Ferland

  • Trainer: Christophe Ferland

  • Breeder: Martial Delaplace

  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Twice beaten at La Teste de Buch and Deauville, Loubeisien (Kheylef) was still relying on a steady form as Vadeni (Churchill), who beat him in his second run, had since won the Critérium du Fonds Européen de l’élevage (Listed Race) at Deauville.

This time, over the mile, he led all the way and went away 2 out, just keeping an edge on a fast-finishing Godolphin envoy Lucellum (Sir Percy), who failed by half a length.

Bred by Martial Delaplace, Loubeisien is the first foal out of Lolif (Loup Breton), a sister to Guajaraz (Rashbag), three times a Listed-winner before being exported to Hong Kong.

Loubeisien had been bought by his trainer Christophe Ferland at the Osarus Breeze up sale in May 2021 for €35,000. La Teste and Osarus where his dam was also sold for €45,000 in 2015 to Sylvain Vidal.

WOFF (c3), (GER) by Zoffany ex Wanderina (Manduro)

Prix Topyo (Maiden 3-year-olds, 1,600m/1m), September 18, Saint-Cloud.

  • Owners: Wertheimer & Frère
  • Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias
  • Breeders: Wertheimer & Frère
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

Third for his debut over Compiègne's mile in July, then twice second over 9 furlongs at Clairefontaine and the Croisé-Laroche, Woff (Zoffany) broke his duck for his return over the mile only 11 days after his previous outing, when he had a bad trip outside the field. The fastest out of the gate with the 1 draw this time, he was held by Maxime Guyon and travelled in 6th. He moved slowly to the outside in the last bend and was able to produce a long acceleration that put the race in his pocket long before the post was in sight. He won by 3 1/2 lengths over Funambulist (New Bay), who also beat 3rd-placed Yellowblue (Bow Creek) by 3 lengths.

Woff is the first of three foals out of Wanderina (Manduro), whose Caravaggio yearling sister is at Goffs Orby at the end of the month. A Listed-winner trained by Freddy Head, she ended her racing career at 3 in October after finishing last in her only Group3 trial. She'd just won her Listed race, back then.

After Woff, she gave a 2yo Adlerflug filly in training with Christophe Ferland, and an Anodin colt born in 21.

Woff was entered in the French 2,000 Guineas and the Jockey Club. His 2nd dam is a sister to Gr1-winners Hernando and Johann Quatz.

MALAVATH (f2), IRE by Mehmas ex Fidaaha (New Approach)

Prix de la piste Rodosto (Maiden 2-year-old Fillies, 1,200m/6f), September 17, Chantilly

  • Owners: Everest Racing, David Redvers, Barbara M. Keller
  • Trainer: Francis Henri Graffard
  • Breeder: Tallyho Stud
  • Rider: Olivier Peslier

Malavath (Mehmas) was held behind the leaders until an opening about two out and from then on, she was simply pushed away by Olivier Peslier to win by two lengths over Dream Queen (Cotai Glory).

Third for her debut at Deauville over 6 furlongs, she had moved into second place next time out on the same trip behind Zack Halo (Amaron), winner of the other maiden race at Chantilly. The form look very solid and the filly won without her tongue-tied, unlike her two previous races.

The winner belongs to the second year of the already acclaimed sire Mehmas (Acclamation), who now boasts 11 black-typed foals. Malavath is out of the maiden mare Fidaaha (New Approach), a sister to Ceisteach, a Group 3-winner, and Steip Amach (Vocalized), a Group 3-winner and also twice Group 1-placed in France at Deauville in the Rothschild and the Romanet. Further down, Aga Khan bloodlines from Ireland trace back to the great Shergar.

Malavath went to Doncaster as a yearling. In September 2020, she was bought for £29,000 by Star Bloodstock Limited. Last May, she was also sold privately at the Arqana Breeze up sales at €139,200 to David Redvers and Meridian International. Her dam had made £200,000 at Goffs in 2015 when sold to Shadwell.

ZACK HALO (c2), IRE by Amaron ex Halawate (King's Best)

Prix de Saint Firmin (Maiden 2-year-old Colts & geldings, 1,200m/6F), September 17, Chantilly

  • Owner: Zak Bloodstock
  • Trainer: Mikel Delzangles
  • Breeders: A. Hakam, Mme A. Hakam
  • Rider: Gérald Mossé

Zack Halo (Amaron) had already performed over 6 furlongs but had failed to win so far finishing 4th first time out then 3rd at Deauville. Over Chantilly's straight, he beat Jazzy Wood (Birchwood) after being held behind the leaders until the decisive moment.

His 2nd dam Afaf (Spectrum) won the Prix Fille de l’Air (Gr3) at Toulouse, also for trainer Mikel Delzangles. The 3rd dam Halawa (Dancing Brave) foaled many good horses: the Aga Khan-bred Saint-Cloud winner gave Zack Hall (Muhtathir), 4 times a Listed-winner with over €600,000 in prize money, but also Zack Hope (Araafa), a Prix du Lys (Gr3) 2nd. Her filly Hawala (Warning) is the dam of Gr1-winner Flag of Honour (Galileo) and Gr1-placed Air Chief Marshall (Danehill Dancer).

Zack Halo was unsold at the 2020 October yearling sales at €16,000

AIMANT (g3), by Exosphère ex Aimante (Dansili)

Finot Hurdle race - Poulains (3-year-old Colts & geldings unraced over jumps, 3,100m/15.5f, Hurdle race), September 17, Auteuil

  • Owner: Écurie des Mouettes
  • Trainer: David Cottin
  • Breeder: Jean-Pierre Dubois
  • Rider: Angelo Zuliani

Aimant (The Exosphère) took off in the final stages of the Finot Poulains (L), beating the field by a staggering 12 lengths, a margin not even posted by previous winners such as the good So French or Storminator.

Aimant was homebred by Jean-Pierre Dubois, his dam Aimante (Dansili) being sold for only €1,500 at the inline Auctav sale to Larissa Kneip for Artemis Bloodstock Investments. Aimante is from the family of Dansili, Danehill and Nijinsky -no less!

Aimante's dam Acago (Royal Academy) won the Prix Chloé (Gr3, 1,800m/9f) and went to the States where she was Gr1-placed for the Wertheimers. The mare was sold in foal to Chachnak, a dual Gr3-winner in France at Longchamp and Chantilly.

Aimant is the first winner by Aimante, who already had 1 of racing age, and placed, an Exosphère (Lonrho) colt.

HAWAI DU BERLAIS (f3), FRA by Martaline ex Hilton du Berlais (Saint des Saints)

Finot Hurlde Race - Pouliches (3-year-old Fillies unraced over jumps, 3,100m/15.5f, Hurdle race), September 17, Auteuil

  • Owner: Succession Magalen Bryant
  • Trainer: Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé
  • Breeder: Haras du Berlais
  • Rider: Pierre Dubourg

Entered several times since May, Hawai du Berlaid (Martaline) was amongst the most popular propositions in this beginners' race. She made the difference in the run-in after travelling behind the leaders, including Priority (Kapgarde), who was very brave and finished second at a good length without ever giving up despite a tough trip and looking like a million-dollar going into the last straight. The AQPS Ire Light (Gris de Gris) also made an impression but that was short-lived as she finished 3rd at 6.5 lengths after briefly taking the lead between the two last hurdles.

The winner's dam Hilton du Berlais (Saint des Saints), also trained by Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé, won the André Michel 3-year-old fillies Hurdle race (Gr3) and was 3rd in the Renaud du Vivier (Gr1) 4-year-old Hurdle race. Hawai du Berlais is her second foal after Havane du Berlais (Saint des Saints), still a maiden. Their younger full sister is in training with Yannick Fouin. Then come two Doctor Dino foals. Hilton du Berlais is a sister to Madison du Berlais (Indian River), a Group 2 winner and a Group 1-placed in Britain.

SATURNE (f2), FRA by Muhaarar ex Straight Lass (Machiavellian)

Prix de Villemetrie (Unraced 2-year-olds, 1,200m/6f), September 11, Chantilly.

  • Owners: Clear Light, Langlais Bloodstock, Écurie des Monceaux, Écurie des Monnaies
  • Trainer: Francis-Henri Graffard
  • Breeder: Serge Boucheron
  • Rider: Hugo Journiac

After travelling behind the front-running Yellow Curry (Al Wukair), who looked like the winner for a very long time, Saturne (Muhaarar) finally caught her home and won by almost a length, hitting the line at full speed as she had made up half a second on the leader in the final 2 furlongs. Ridden wide and in front without being able to take an edge, the Godolphin favourite Nez Lion’s Mane (Shamardal) finished 3rd at 4 lengths.

Saturne was sold for €210 000 to her-co-owner Langlais Bloodstock at Arqana last year, when consigned by Mézeray. Last Summer, consigned this time by the Monceaux, her Siyouni brother made €185,000 and was sold to BBA Ireland.

They are the siblings of the two sires Barastraight and Naaqoos, also out of Straight Lass (Machiavellian), whose second dam won the Irish One Thousand Guineas, and was placed in the Irish Oaks and the Vermeille.

WHITE PLATIN (c3), FRA by Polarix ex Gallery’s Platine (Gallery of Zurich)

Prix Lelio (Maiden 3-year-olds, 1,300m/6.5f), September 10, Saint-Cloud.

  • Owner: Doris Siegenthaler
  • Trainer: Corine Barande Barbe
  • Breeder: Doris Siegenthaler
  • Rider: Ronan Thomas

Last into the starting stalls, White Platin (Polarix) was the fastest out of them, however. Trained by Corine Barande Barbe, he was racing here for the 18th time and had made the frame three times in his last 5 outings. He took the lead, this time, and was 2 lengths ahead of the field two out. As none was able to make up any ground on him, first-time blinkered Fruehlingsbote (Stormy River) finished second ahead of Shallali (Bated Breath)

Trained in Switzerland by Carmen Bocskai, White Platin's dam Gallery’s Platine (Gallery of Zurich) won over 6.5 furlongs. She went to stud in 2014 and first gave a Magadan filly who never raced. White Platin was bred three years later from this family also hailed by King Platin (Konig Shuffle), another horse trained by Corine Barande Barbe.

Polarix is a young sire since he went to the covering shed in 2016 at Haras de Saint-Roch in Normandy. This brother to Lando Blue (Lando) only sired 9 foaled in his first season. Amongst these was the half-Arabian Helix, his first winner. Breeders took notice and he received more visits in his second season.

TEDDY BLUE (g3), GER by Sea the Moon ex Tickle Me Blue (Iffraaj)

Prix Poliglote (Maiden 3-year-olds, 2,800m/1m6f), September 10, Saint-Cloud.

  • Owner: Heike Bischoff-Lafrentz
  • Trainer: Francis-Henri Graffard
  • Breeder: Gestüt Gorlsdorf
  • Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

Gelded in June after two races, including a 3rd place at ParisLongchamp for his debut, Teddy Blue (Sea the Moon) came back in August in Deauville over an extended 1m4f trip, finishing second. He was tackling an even longer distance here and the Gestut Gorldsdorf  German-bred just let go. Two out, he was already out of reach and opened his account by two lengths, beating La Templière (French Fifteen), who finished well.

Teddy Blue is the first foal out of Tickle Me Blue (Iffraaj), who earned her black-type at Baden Baden in 2016. All her siblings are also black-typed. Tickle Me Green (Sea The Moon), for instance, won the Prix Mme Jean Couturié (Listed Race), the Vichy Oaks, in 2020. Their dam, Tinkle Me Pink (Groom Dancer), never ran, however. Teddy Blue was bred in Germany but went for sale in England when unsold at £50,000 at Tattersalls as a yearling. He ran for Heike Bischoff-Lafrentz, the Gestüt Gorlsdorf owner since 2014. Teddy Blue's full brother, Teddy Cool, went to the ring last Summer at Deauville and was paid € 250,000 by Chantilly trainer Henri Devin.

BLUE BOAT (c2), (GB) by Frankel ex Blue Waltz (Pivotal)

Prix Kendor (Maiden 2-year-old colts and geldings, 1,600m/1m), September 10, Saint-Cloud.

  • Owner: Succession Khalid Abdullah
  • Trainer: Francis-Henri Graffard
  • Breeders: Fittocks Stud LTD, Arrow Farm Stud
  • Rider: Christophe Soumillon

Second in the Prix de Crèvecoeur in August at Deauville for his debut, Blue Boat (Frankel) fought again that race's 3rd place Dreamflight (Frankel) at Saint-Cloud. Once again, Blue Boat was close to the pace behind the front-runner and find the gap inside the rail to prevail by a nose as his main rival Dreamflight (Frankel) finished fast but only too late. Haya Zark (Zarak) finished 3rd, three lengths ahead of the field.

Blue Bloat's dam Blue Waltz (Pivotal) is a sister to Gr1 winners in Britain, Canada and the USA. His 3rd dam Blue Duster won the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr1) in 1988. Her own dam Blue Note had won the Prix Maurice de Gheest when it was still a Gr2.

Bought for £ 450 000 by Juddmonte Farm last year at Tattersalls, Blue Boat was consigned by his joint-breeder Fittocks Stud, that is Luca Cumani. The same consignor had sold Blue Symphony (Darshaan) in 2012 at Tattersalls, where John Magnier had secured Blue Boat's 2nd dam for £1m.

SITUVEUX (f2), (IRE) by Siyouni ex Only Green (Desert Green)

Prix Ravinella (Maiden 2-year-old Fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 10, Saint-Cloud.

  • Owners: Wertheimer et Frère
  • Trainer: Carlos Laffon-Parias
  • Breeders: Wertheimer et Frère
  • Rider: Maxime Guyon

The Prix des Marettes 2021's form was enhanced here as the 2nd and 3rd-placed fillies at Deauville make the exacta now at Saint-Cloud. In a reverse order, however, since Situveux (Siyouni) beat Subahiyah (Le Havre), now. Both travelled behind the leaders and the imposing Situveux took off two out to beat her rival by a head. 3rd-placed Lerna (Showcasing) came behind at less than a length.

Situveux is out of Only Green (Desert Green), la Listed-winner and a Group-placed also owned by the Wertheimers. Since she entered stud in 2011, she gave many winners, the most talented so far behind possibly Shaman (Shamardal), a Prix La Force (Gr3) and Prix d’Harcourt (Gr2) winner, also 3rd in the Prix Ganay 2020 (Gr1), now a sire in Ireland at Yeomanstown Stud. Three of her first foals went to the salesincluding Shaman's full brother Merikha (Shamardal), who didn't do that well and was sold for a mere € 19,000 by Bashir Abdalla Milad Ben Ayad.

The Aga Khan's Siyouni (Pivotal) pulls ahead of his rivals in the French sires- list in 2021 with almost €3m already earned by his offspring this season. His 2-year-olds of 2021 have won 10 races with only 50 runs to date.

CHANCELLERY (c2), IRE by Medaglia d’Oro ex Shelbysmile (Smart Strike)

Prix de Fontenoy (Unraced 2-year-old colts and geldings, 1,600m/1m), September 2, 2021, ParisLongchamp

  • Owner: Godolphin SNC
  • Trainer: André Fabre
  • Breeder: SF Bloodstock SC
  • Rider: Mickäel Barzalona

Two years after Victor Ludorum (Shamardal), Godolphin blues is trending again in the coveted Prix de Fontenoy with Chancellery (Mediaglia d´Oro). A victory that was built differently due to the small number of starters and a shorter draw. Mickäel Barzalona gradually let his ride slide alongside the leading horse, the Wertheimers' Hypotenus (Lope de Vega). Two out, his rider started to push him Chancellery and soon after, he made his move to take over and increase the gap until the post, without ever being really ridden. Woozle (Areion) flowed behind to take second place to Hypotenus. Race time: 1’42’43, a few hundredths slower than the 2019 edition won by Victor Ludorum.
Another point that differs between Victor Ludorum and Chancellery, their place of breeding. The former was bred by Godolphin, which is not the case for Medaglia d'Oro's colt, bought at the Arqana Breeze-up sale on May 28th. A nice pinhooking by Englishman Malcolm Bastard's team as Chancellery, secured for $ 175,000 as a yearling in the USA at the October Lexington sales, was sold in Deauville for €783,000.

But it is a French family since Chancellery's third dam is Sierra Madre (Baillamont), winner of the Prix Marcel Boussac and the Prix Vermeille bred in France by the late Georges Sandor.

AGAVE (f2), GB by Dubawi ex Contribution (Champs Elysées)

Prix de la Cascade (unraced 2-year-old fillies, 1,600m/1m), September 2, 2021, ParisLongchamp

  • Owner: Succession Khalid Abdullah
  • Trainer: André Fabre
  • Breeder: Juddmonte Farm LTD
  • Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Agave (Dubawi) made an impression in the paddock. This little filly trained by André Fabre is none other than Enable's niece. Zarkava's soaring in 2007 in the same Prix de la Cascade has certainly not been wiped away, but the style of this first win made the buzz without the gap at the finish being dizzying.

Agave had won from the start. Always by her side, Singforthemoment (No Nay Never) finished a good second as she stayed on in the last furlong. Mqse de Sévigné (Siyouni) was tough enough to keep third place, even though she was kept outside the field all the way. Race time: 1’43’’28, close to Philomène's timing last year.

Often crossed to sires outside Juddmonte, such as Enable with Nathaniel, Concentric (Sadler’s Wells) had been presented this time internally, to Dansili's son, Champs Elysées in 2011, which gave birth to Contribution. The latter, placed in training with André Fabre, never ran. At 5, covered by Lope de Vega, she gave birth to Destinado, who made a brief career with Francis-Henri Graffard before being sold to Green Lightning for £ 30,000 across the Channel at the July sales in Newmarket in 2021. Agave is only her second foal, but the mating to Dubawi paid off from the start
