Saturday, 22 August 2020, Deauville. - The Shadwell Prix Daphnis (Gr3), a 3-year-old race on the straight Deauville mile course, was the scene of a heated finish. The German challenger Thorin (Soldier Hollow) was nevertheless dominant in the last furlong, taking the upper hand on the front-runner Tammani (Make Believe), who remained a good second at a good length for his comeback. The French challenger Kenway (Galiway ) finished third, coming from the rear, at half a length. Padron (Gris de Gris) also rallied home in fourth.
Trained in Germany by Henk Grewe, the Gestüt Hachtsee homebred Thorin had easily won his first three first races this year, then moved to third in a Group 3 behind two older horses. On soft ground, he was able to accelerate at the right time.
This is the eighth referenced foal out of Taita (Big Shuffle), listed-placed in Germany and for a while trained in France without any real success. She gave Tai Chi (High Chaparral), Group 3 winner at 2 in Germany and then second in the Critérium de Saint-Cloud (Gr1) under the training of the late Werner Baltromei.
An unraced mare out of Taita, Top Model (Teofilo), was sold in December 2018 in Deauville full of Isfahan for € 10,000.
