Sunday, September 6, 2020, ParisLongchamp. - A 4-year-old an up race over 1m2f but no longer on the Maisons-Laffitte straight course, the Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr3) enabled a truly good horse to win its “Group 3 winner” status brilliantly. The 4-year-old Glycon (Le Havre) was competing on this occasion for the first time at this level and he did not fail, for what was, however, his fifth public outing. The Haras de Saint-Pair-bred gelding, like the five other runners opposed to the race's three fillies also confirmed in the race, galloped in the rear of a field led by Mr Satchmo (Mr Sidney) and Dariyma (City Zip ), who was running two weeks after her last race. Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, Glycon let Les Vertus (Shakespearean), Dariyma and Villa Rosa (Doctor Dino) fight for the lead for some time and finally just passed them on the wire, winning by a short neck over Villa Rosa, herself a head in front of Les Vertus. Both had followed the leaders, including Dariyma, who stayed on for 4th at half a length.

Glycon started his career last Autumn with two impressive victories, on turf and all-weather in Deauville, then confirmed in June for his return in a class 2 race. Second for his first attempt in a Listed race, the 6th stage of the Défi du Gallop at Clairefontaine, over 9 furlongs, he had yielded a short neck to Velma Valento that day.

Glycon was born out of Glorious Sight (Singspiel), a daughter of the excellent Zelding (Warning) who was second behind Golden Lilac in the 2011 French Guineas for owner-breeder R. C. Strauss. She also gave a Dubawi filly who sold for £ 450,000 at the Newmarket sales, where Haras de Saint-Pair consigned her last year. A Siyouni filly was born this year.
