KIWI KISS (F3), FRA by Dabirsim ex Big Monologue (Testa Rossa)

€ 24,000 Prix de la Cour Oriot (Maiden 3yos, 1,900m/9.5f AWT), December 30, Deauville

Owner: Jean-Vincent Toux (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums = € 18,480)
Trainer: Jean-Vincent Toux
Breeder: Erich Shmid (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = €  2,772)
Rider: Laura Grosso

It was a 9th attempt for Kiwi Kiss (Dabirsim), who started racing in May 2018 with Joséphine Soudan with 3 consecutive second places over 6 to 7 furlongs. Out from August to last April, she proved unable to perform again over distances from 6 to 8 furlongs, and was sold at Deauville last Summer for only € 3,000 to Éric Lemaître. It was finally the local trainer Jean-Vincent Toux who ended up owning the filluy and she was starting under his colours for the first time there. Toux knew the family as he had bought Kiwi Kiss' older sister Big Letters (Whipper) at the same venue in 2015 for € 2,000 … She only raced a year for him but won at Tours and took around €35,000 in the process with her owners' premiums included.

Kiwi Kiss, however, had been sold for € 80,000 as a yearling, again at Deauville. Her first race for her new connections didn't start well as she was a good last a few lengths behind the field after about 100 yards. Her rider Laura Grosso was happy to let her do her thing in the rear and moved out entering in the last stariight. While the front-running I Am A Dream (Dunkerque) was working hard to keep the lead, Kiwi Kiss passed the whole field outside and won on the bridle by over a length in front of I Am A Dream and Midas Girl (Dabirism), who also finished well from behind in a mixed race dominated by fillies.

Trained by Henri-Alex Pantall, Kiwi Kiss's dam Big Monologue (Testa Rossa) raced for Erich Schmid, the filly's breeder. She won two Listed races at Frankfurt over the mile, an option that the Anjou trainer often chooses for fillies and mares who need a bit of black type in their catalogue pages.

Kiwi Kiss's younger brother Brazil Boy (Dabirsim) is in training with Pantall, and an Olympic Glory filly was bred in 2019.

MIRAGE HERO (C2), GB by Due Diligence ex Her Honour (Shamardal)

€27,000 Prix de la Route Papillon (Maiden 2yos, 1,300m/6.5f AWT), December 23, Chantilly

Owners: Feel Good Racing, Paul Benet & Miguel Courtois (Prize money, No premiums : 13 500 €)
Trainer: Andrea Marcialis
Breeder: Crispin Estates Ltd (No Premiums : 0 €)
Rider: Léa Bails

The form holds as the winner Mirage Hero (Due Diligence) finished 3rd previously behind Miss Extra, who did well on Sunday at Deauville in a 1,500m maiden. For his thord attempt, the Andrea Marcialis-trained colt had taken the lead. He followed the same tactics here on a shorter trip despite his outside 11 draw and went clear in the early straight but only kept a short neck on the post ahead of Brandtmann (Zoffany), once again a pleasing closer.

Mirage Hero went three time on the sales ring : as a yearling at Tattersalls, when sold £5,000, the at 2, again at Newmarket, where he was unsold at £28,000 in May, and finally in July at the Arqana Summer Sale, where he was secured by YOHEA (Anne-Sophie Yoh) for € 61,000.

Bred in Britain, Mirage Hero has not been listed in France and is not eligible to the Frenchbred premiums.

He traces back to the Aga Khan family of Epsom and Irish Derbies winner Harzand. He's the first foal out of the maiden mare Her Honour, bred by Cheveley Park Stud and Rachel Hood.

ROYAUMONT (G2), FRA by Dabirsim ex Rosie Thomas (Dylan Thomas)

€27,000 Prix de Martainville (Maiden 2yo Colts & Geldings, 1,500m/8.5f AWT), December 22, Deauville

Owners: Antoine Gilibert & Benoît Chalmel (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums = € 20,790)
Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
Breeder: Wim Van de Poel (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Gelded in June, Royaumont (Dabirsim) made his debut on the same card than the corresponding fillies maiden who won on this day, Honey Cake (read below), on November 28th when 4th on this course and distance. However, if the gelding took the lead on that occasion, he missed the start this time and had to be checked pretty hard going into the turn to find his space in 6th within the field. It was a fast pace and Royaumont cleared off going out of the bend as the field was spreading. He never let go and won pretty easily under Stéphane Pasquier, by 1 1/2 length.

Royaumont's dam, Rosie Thomas (Dylan Thomas) has been bought back for € 32,000 at Arqana Breeding Sale earlier in December, in foal to Australia. Royaumont himself had been sold as a yearling for € 85,000, tehgn boght back at the Arqana breeze up sames in May for €48,000. He's the first winner out of Rosie Thomas, who also foald a Dariyan colt in 2018.

HONEY CAKE (F2), (IRE) by Siyouni ex Pink Anemone (Dansili)

€27,000 Prix d’Epreville (Maiden 2yo Fillies, 1,500m/8.5f AWT), December 22, Deauville

Owner:  Khalid Rashid Al Mohannadi (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums = € 20,790)
Trainer: Henri-Alex Pantall
Breeder: William McAlpin (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Vincent Cheminaud

A pleasing 4th for her debut on November behind Golden Crown, Honey Cake (Siyouni) did not wait long her first win. Despite of the 14 draw outside the field, she was ridden quitte aggressively by Vincent Cheminaud who urgend her to take the lead going into the bend. She went on and kept Si Un Jour (Invincible Spirit) at bay without seeming to bother, winning by ¾ of a length Miss Extra (Masterstroke) finisged well in third two lengths back after a sluggish start.

Honey Cake is the third foal out of Pink Anemone (Dansili). She was sold as a yearling at Deauville by Monceaux for €95,000, then sold again at 2 for €110,000 to bloodtosck agent Paul Nataf for her actual owner, Khalid Rashid Al Mohannadi, from Qatar. The dam only ran once, finishing 3rd at Wolverhamption on the all-weather. She's out of Crystal Reef (King’s Best), who also foaled the good stayer Doha Dream (Shamardal) and is also a sister to champion stayers Martaline, Coastal Path and Reefscape.

Pink Anemone also foaled an Almanzor filly in 2019.

CHORBA (F2), FRA by Olympic Glory ex Ysandre (Zamindar)

€27,000 Prix de la Gagnerie (Unraced 2yo Fillies, 1,900m/9.5f AWT), December 14, Deauville

Owner: Al Shaqab Racing (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums + Breeder Premiums = € 23,908)
Trainer: Jean-Claude Rouget
Breeder: Al Shaqab Racing (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Cristian Demuro

Quickly in the lead, Chorba (Olympic Glory) did not leave her rivals a chance and won by two and a half lengths over Juilley (Mastrecraftsman), who made her way turning wide, and Golnar (Pour Moi), who ran well after siding with the eventual winner in the lead. Adana (Le Havre) and Trezy Girl (Racinger) finished well behind in fifth and seventh places after a bad start.

Chorba’s younger sister by Mehmas was sold for € 40,000 at the Arqana V2 sale last August. They are sisters to Spirit of Brittany (Invincible Spirit), third in the Prix Six Perfections (Gr3) in 2018 after two sensational early wins at 2, but struggled to win again at 3.

Their dam Ysandre (Zamindar) did not run, but she is a sister to Lockinge Stakes (Gr1) winner Keltos (Kendor), and also Krataios (Sabrehill), Loxias (Saumarez) and Kavafi (Zafonic), all Group winners. Ysandre had been sold to Al Shaqab for € 240,000 at Deauville in foal to Holy Roman Emperor of a filly who never ran.

INSTRUIT (C2), (GB) by Intello ex Stumpy (Lawman)

€27,000 Prix du Grand Chesnay (Unraced 2yo Colts & Geldings, 1,900m/9.5f AWT), December 14, Deauville

Owners: Antoine Gilibert, Franck McNulty & Benoît Chalmel (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums = € 20,790)
Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
Breeder: Gestüt Zur Kuste AG (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

Withdrawn four times since September, then eliminated in November, Instruit (Intello) was finally able to find his race over Deauville's all-weather track. The best ourt of the stalls with his draw 1, he let Sahar (Zoffany) take the lead and trailed him afterwards, then slipped along the rail after the bend as his leader slightly veered left. Instruit extended himself and was able to get out of the reach of the closers, as Abbelo (Lawman) led them in second at four lengths.

The winner was purchased for € 85,000 at the Arqana sales in October 2018. He is the second winner foaled by Stumpy (Lawman) after Cœur Rouge (Nathaniel), who won over hurdles in the South of France. It’s an Argentinian family, country of birth of the winner’s second dam, a daughter and sister of group performers in that country.

Stumpy also foaled a Mehmas filly in 2019.

ALJUMAYLIYAH (F2), (GB) by Olympic Glory ex Aldayha (Acclamation)

€27,000 Prix du Temple de Vénus (Unraced 2yo Fillies, 1,500m/7.5f AWT), December 12, Chantilly

Owner: Khalid Rashid Al Mohannadi (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums = € 20,790)
Trainer: Henri-Alex Pantall
Breeder: Al Shaqab Racing (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Tristan Baron

Sold as a yearling for € 30,000, and then at 2 at the Arqana breeze up for € 40,000, Aljumayliyah (Olympic Glory) started outside this group of eleven beginners but found herself on the front line before the first turn. Ridden early in the final stretch, she took several lengths at the furlong pole. She then lived on this advance to win by two lengths over Wootton Saga (Wootton Bassett) and Pioneer of the Sky (Pioneerof The Nile), who had to circle around the field and left a good impression here.

The winner’s dam Aldahya (Acclamation) won a 7f maiden in the summer of her 3 years. She has just been bought for € 37,000, in foal to Shalaa, at the Arqana breeding sales. She also gave a Toronado filly in 2018 and a Shalaa colt in 2019.

The dam of the Derby winner Sir Percy (Mark of Esteem), also an excellent sire, is the third dam of Aldayha.

NATIONAL SERVICE (G2), FRA by Elusive City ex Forces Sweetheart (Allied Forces)

€27,000 Prix du Jeu de l’Oie (Unraced 2yo Colts & Geldings, 1,500m/7.5f AWT), December 12, Chantilly

Owner: Erika Gilliar (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums + Breeder Premiums = € 23,908)
Trainer: Gavin Hernon
Breeder: Erika Gilliar (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Antoine Hamelin

A Non-runner on November 27 for refusing to enter the starting stalls, National Service (Elusive City) perfectly vacated them this time and went fast ahead, only to be soon checked behind the leader. He was thus able to wait up to two furlongs out, was then moved out to take off and soon get out of reach for a well finishing Stanzo (Speightstown), who came a long way after being unlucky at the first corner -he was drawn wide at the start.

Bred by his owner Erika Gilliar in Normandy, National Service was bought back for € 28,000 at the Arqana sales in October, when consigned by Coulonces Sales. His older brother Turtle Wars (Turtle Bowl), a winner over hurdles, however, was bought for £ 9,000 at Goffs sales in Doncaster last May.

Their dam Forces Sweetheart (Allied Forces) won five consecutive handicaps over 6 furlongs between August and October 2006, and climbed 30lbs on the weights scale. National Service is her fourth winning foal, and her last referenced foal on France Galop's website.

QUIET TIMES (F2), (GER) by Reliable Man ex Quenching (Street Cry)

€27,000 Prix de Saint-Arnoult (2yo Maiden Fillies, 1,500m/8.5f AWT), December 1st, Deauville

Owners: Fair Salinia & Pia Brandt (Shared prizemoney + Owner Premiums = € 20,790)
Trainer: Pia Brandt
Breeder: Fair Salinia (Breeder Premiums 10% as conceived outside France = € 2,079)
Rider: Maxime Guyon

Ninth for her debut on Deauville turf at the end of October, when she came by inside early in the last straight, Quiet Times (Reliable Man) took a good start and a good position near the leaders, Hidden Land (Hard Spun) and American Bridge (Kodiac). The latter took over going off the bend with Quiet Times by her side. The two fillies fought each other from then on, Quiet Times keeping the high ground to win by one and a half negth. Anfrati (Wootton Bassett) finished well in 3rd, two and a half lengths down the field.

Quiet Times was unsold at € 82,000 at the 2018 October sales, contrary to her full brother, sold for € 50,000 at Goffs in August. Their dam Quenching (Street Cry) raced for Sheikh Mohammed and won once over Lyon La Soie fibresand track. She's out of Sundrop (Sunday Silence), a Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Gr3) winner over Epsom mile after finishing third in both the Fillies Mile (Gr1) at 2 and the One Thousand Guineas (Gr1) at Newmarket at 3.

Quenching is also the dam of Master Brewer (Reliable Man), exported to Hong Kong after winning at Newmarket and the in the Critérium de la vente d’octobre at ParisLongchamp in 2018.

A Reliable Man colt was bred in 2018.

SPIRIT INTIME (C2), FRA by Makfi ex Lettre Intime (Invincible Spirit)

€27,000 Prix des Authieux (2yo Maiden Colts & Geldings, 1,500m/8.5f AWT), December 1st, Deauville

Owner: Domaine de la Cornillière (Prizemoney + Owner Premiums + Breeder Premiums = € 23,908)
Trainer: Antoine de Watrigant
Breeder: Domaine de la Cornillière (Breeder Premiums 15% as conceived in France = € 3,118)
Rider: Mickaël Barzalona

A brave 3rd for his debut three weeks earlier at Saint-Cloud, when he led the race, Spirit Intime (Makfi) once again led and took off early in the last straight to remain out of the reach of Charlesquint (Showcasing), the German raider Adagio (Wiener Walzer) and Le Solaire (Siyouni), qui n’a pas eu toutes ses aises au moment décisif.

Consigned as a yearling in Deauville by haras des Capucines, Lettre Intime (Invincible Spirit), the winner's dam, was paid € 38,000 by her future trainer John Hammond. She was sold again later in her career but never managed to win, even when she was rated 41 at the end of her career. Sold in foal to George Vancouver in 2015, she made € 30,000. The filly to be born ran once, to no avail, for owner Noël Forgeard. She'd been sold for a mere € 9,000 as a yearling, and then € 20,000 at the breeze-up sales. But after the Rajsaman yearling colt was sold € 6,000 at the 2017 October sale at Deauville, the family never went back to the sales. A Dariyan filly was subsequently bred in 2018.

Lettre Intime's second dam Diamond Seal was one of the best mares in Élevage Lagardère.
