Thursday, May 14, 2020, ParisLongchamp. - Five 3-year-old colts started in the Prix La Force (Gr3), one of the obvious prep races for the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby, Gr1), which will take place this year on Sunday, July 5, more than seven weeks later.
Pao Alto (Intello) won his third straight success rather easily as he followed the two leaders, the favourite Another Sky (Le Havre) flanked by Net King (Nathaniel), and dominated them in the run-in, with a length and a half to spare on Ocean Atlantique (American Pharoah), who finished well after having more trouble than the winner to find his way home. Another Sky couldn't keep up in the end and lost third place on the post to Chachnak (Kingman), who came from the rear.
Bred in France by La Motteraye and Gérard Ferron, Pao Alto was sold for € 160,000 as a yearling at the Deauville sales. He was beaten by a more mature teammate for their debut in Deauville, last summer, then won twice thereafter, including the Critérium de Bordeaux (L), before being declared a non-runner in the Critérium de Saint-Cloud (Gr1).
He is entered in The Emirates Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr1), the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr1) and the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (Gr1).
Pao Alto is the eighth foal out of the German mare Peaceful Love (Dashing Blade), a Group 3 winner in her home country.
